Talley Ties for Most Consecutive Wins in AJGA Jaworski wins first AJGA event of the season
FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., tied the Girls Division record for most consecutive AJGA wins with a three-streak total. She ended the final round of the AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Reliant Bank with an even-par 72, posting a tournament score of an even-par 216. Zack Jaworski of Alpharetta, Ga., won the Boys Division with a score of 1-under-par 215.
The AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Reliant Bank was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Westhaven Golf Club in Franklin, Tenn. The tournament field consisted of 96 players from 17 states, Argentina, and Colombia. The Boys Division was playing the par-72 course at 6,857 yards and the Girls Division was playing at 6,000 yards.
Talley went wire-to-wire at the AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Reliant Bank. She tied the AJGA record for most consecutive wins with Juliet Vongphoumy (2010), Leigh Anne Hardin (1999) and Kim Rowton (1998). The win in Franklin accounted for her ninth total AJGA victory.
“It means a lot to win, especially headed to Oregon for the Rolex Tournament of Champions,” Talley said. “It was a good round, and I was glad I could pull it off.”
Avery George of Cleveland, Tenn., had a 1-stroke lead for second, going into the final round, but Janie Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., came back to post a score of 2-under-par 70. Jackson finished the tournament in second with a score of 3-over-par 219. George posted a tournament total of 13-over-par 229 for third place in the Girls Division.
Jaworski switched drivers a few weeks ago and says the change helped him win his first AJGA event in 2011. He only missed one fairway during the final round, and said the accuracy helped him avoid all the fescue right off the green. In the final round, Jaworski posted three birdies and 13 pars.
“It was a tough course and tough conditions with the wind,” Jaworski said. “I'm really glad I came out on top today.”
Conley Hurst of Little Rock, Ark., finished one stroke behind Jaworski earning a second-place finish. Posting scores of 1-over-par 217 were Keegan Vea of Evansville, Ind., and Grant Hirschman of Collierville, Tenn. The two players finished the tournament tied for third. Christopher Baker of Franklin, Tenn., Thomas Baik of Cordoba, Argentina, Taylor Davis of Franklin, Tenn., and Forrest Gamble of Birmingham, Ala., all tied for fifth with scores of 2-over-par 218.
