Eagle on 18 Propels Jackson to Victory at AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Franklin American Mortgage Company
Fischer's 1-over-par 72 gives him win in Boys Division at Vanderbilt Legends Club

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Janie Jackson of Huntsville, Ala., eagled the par-5 18th hole after a one hour and thirty-five minute rain delay to complete a 5-under-par back-nine 32 and give her a one-stroke victory over Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Chandler Fischer of Nicholasville, Ky., closed the tournament with a 1-over -par round of 72 to win the Boys Division at 7-under-par 206.

The AJGA Franklin Junior presented by Franklin American Mortgage Company was a 54-hole stroke-play tournament conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Vanderbilt Legends Club — South Course. The field featured 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states and Mexico. The Boys Division played the par-71 course at 7,041 yards. The Girls Division played the par-72 course at 6,100 yards.

Jackson stuck her 225-yard second shot on the par-5 18th hole to about six feet before the horn sounded for the rain delay. After thinking about the putt throughout the delay she was able to fight off her nerves and roll in the eagle putt for the win.

“I was nervous, very, very, very nervous,” Jackson said. “It was the longest rain delay I've ever been through in my life, but it was worth it.”

Finishing in second place and one stroke behind Jackson was Then at 4-under-par 212. Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City, Tenn., rounded out the top three in the Girls Division at 1-under-par 215.

In the Boys Division, Fischer came back after a slow start which had him at 3-over-par for the day after eleven holes.

“I made birdie on Nos. 12, 13, and 14,” Fischer said. “I thought after that stretch I would be low enough to win and I was able to enjoy coming down the stretch for my first AJGA victory.”

Ted Moon of Lilburn, Ga., finished alone in second at 3-under-par 210. Andrew Dorn of West Chester, Ohio, finished in third at 2-under-par 211. Round out the top five in the Boys Division in a tie for fourth at even-par 213 are Jens Talbert of Little Rock, Ark., Cameron Beal of Bowling Green, Ky., and Korey Ward of West Chester, Ohio.
