Las Vegas, Nev. — Zane Thomas of Las Vegas carded a 4-under-par 68 to finish with a tournament total of 6-under-par 210 to maintain his position at the top of the Boys Division in the final round of the Las Vegas Junior Open presented by The Pacemaker. Devon Brown of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., fired a 1-under-par 71 bringing her to 2-over-par 218 for the tournament and was enough to give her the victory in the Girls Division.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Las Vegas Junior Open presented by The Pacemaker was a 54-hole stroke-play event held at Anthem Country Club. The 78-player field featured players from 14 states, Switzerland, Canada and Mexico. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 7,356 yards while the Girls Division played at 6,244 yards.

Playing in only his second AJGA event, Thomas showed the poise of a veteran during a back and forth final round. He plans to take his experience of working well under pressure and closing out his rounds with him into his upcoming tournaments. Thomas' iron shots are what set him up for success. He managed to tally five final-round birdies and a notable eagle on No. 13.

“On No. 13 I hit it on the right side of the rough about 120 yards out and decided to hit pitching wedge,” Thomas said. “I couldn't see it but I heard it hit the pin and everyone cheering.”

Finishing in second place in the Boys Division is J.J. Holen from Castaic, Calif., at 1-under-par 215. In third place is Tad Darland from Henderson, Nev., at an even-par 216. Austin Quick from Scottsdale, Ariz., and Nicolo Galletti from Clayton, Calif., tied for fourth place with tournament totals of 3-over-par 219.

In her first AJGA win, Brown is excited to take a No.1 finish with her as she heads to Northwestern in the fall. Brown anticipated a conservative final round, planning to shoot even par and taking it one shot at a time. She recorded three birdies for the round, including a closely missed eagle putt.

“It feels good to have my first win my senior year,” Brown said. “I've come close, and had a lot of seconds. I worked on staying in my swing during my iron shots. I knew I needed a few birdies for a win. On No. 12 I got on in two and my first putt rolled over the hole to miss my eagle putt, but then I was able to tap in for birdie.”

Shannon Aubert from Orlando, Fla. shot a 6-over-par 222 to finish in second place. Jenny Hahn of Henderson, Nev. finished third with an 8-over-par 224.
