NIEBRUGGE’S 1-UNDER-PAR 71 LEADS TO MEDALIST HONORS AT BOYNE
Tsui medals in Girls Division with 2-over-par 74

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. — Jordan Niebrugge of Mequon, Wis., fired a 1-under-par 71 to medal in the Boys Division of the AJGA National Qualifier. Vivian Tsui of Markham, Ontario, took medalist honors in the Girls Division with a 2-over-par 74.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA National Qualifier was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Boyne Highlands Resort - Moor Course. The tournament field featured 80 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from 18 states, Canada and Colombia. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,808 yards, while the Girls Division played at 6,046 yards.
Niebrugge recorded four birdies against three bogeys on the day. His birdie at No. 18 led to a 1-under-par 35 on the back nine. Despite a bogey at his final hole, Niebrugge was able to card the only sub-par round in the Boys Division.
“I had the putter going early and kept it out of trouble,” Niebrugge said. “You didn’t get as much roll, so a lot of the time you had to carry it all the way to the hole.”
Also earning a Tournament Exemption in the Boys Division were Ryann Ree of Redondo Beach, Calif., Michael Werenski of South Hadley, Mass., Mark Foster of Davison, Mich., Nick Mancinotti of Sylvania, Ohio, Joshua Bialecki of Waterville, Ohio, Tyler Williams of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Jonathan Sanders of Chatsworth, Calif., Jonathan McMahan of Powell, Ohio, Danny Smith of Northville, Mich., Matt Garrison of Reedsburg, Wis., and Bailey Truesdell of Grand Blanc, Mich.
In the Girls Division, Tsui started on No. 17 and recorded pars on her first two holes before carding a 4-over-par 40 on the front nine. On the back nine, she tallied birdies at Nos. 13 and 14 en route to a 2-under-par 34.
“The front nine was rough,” Tsui said. “On the back, putts were falling and it saved my score. I just went and played and made adjustments on the course along the way.”
Tatiana Pineda of Bogotá, Colombia, and Jae Hee Choi of Surrey, British Columbia, each earned a Tournament Exemption in the Girls Division.
