KENT, STEWART GO WIRE-TO-WIRE TO WIN SCISSORTAIL JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
2-under-par 214s hold off Boys, Girls Division fields at Emerald Falls Golf Club

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Cody Kent of Castle Rock, Colo., held off fellow competitors to win the Boys Division of the Scissortail Junior Championship by one-stroke with a six-foot par putt on No. 18. In the Girls Division, Alexandra Stewart of Peoria, Ariz., conquered the field with a nine-stroke victory at 2-under-par 214 for the tournament.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Scissortail Junior Championship was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Emerald Falls Golf Club. The field consisted of 97 players, 74 boys and 23 girls, from 14 states and Taiwan. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 7,004 yards and the Girls Division at 6,094 yards.

Kent used a strong mentality to hold his own throughout the final round.

“Coming back after bad shots is what got me through today,” Kent said. “I only had two birdies today and they were on the front nine. Luckily it was enough to post a decent round.”

In second was Brock Wilson of Beaumont, Texas at 1-under-par 215. Tied for third at even-par 216 were Jesse Droemer of Sealy, Texas and Nathan Chambers of Purcell, Okla. John Cassidy, a local from Tulsa, was fifth at 2-over-par 218.

Stewart led the event wire-to-wire resulting in her 2-under-par 214 total.

“I just had a really good week out here and was able to play very steady golf,” Stewart said. “I played it safe when I could and was aware of where I was, and it all worked out.”

Rounding out the top-three in a close decision was Kayli Quinton of Cypress, Texas at 7-over-par 223 in second and Taylor Ramsey of Augusta, Ga., at 8-over-par 224 finishing third.
