DEARINGER TAKES THREE-STROKE LEAD AT WOODWARD VIDEO JUNIOR AT THE GREENBRIER
Kennedy edges out pack to lead by one-stroke at the Meadows Course

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. β€” Richard Dearinger, 17, of Chapel Hill, N.C., carded a two-day total 5-under-par 137 to take the lead after the second round of the Woodward Video Junior at the Greenbrier. In the Girls Division, Casey Ann Kennedy, 17, of Venice, Fla., shot a 2-over-par 73 to maintain the lead heading into the final round.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier features 99 players from 25 states and Canada. The field consists of 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 Greenbrier β€” Meadows Course at 6,756 yards, while the Girls Division is playing the course at 6,068 yards.

Dearinger, who played in the qualifier to earn a spot in the tournament, credited his position at the top of the leaderboard to fundamentals and consistent play over the past two rounds. He carded birdies on Nos. 7, 8, 10, and 15.

β€œOverall, I'm hitting my spots, just trying to avoid bad places,” Dearinger said. β€œMy driver is going a little crooked but my irons are making up for it. I'm putting well too.”

Dearinger is not feeling any pressure going into tomorrow's round.

β€œI'm looking forward to tomorrow. I came into the qualifier just trying to shoot a low round so this is great,” Dearinger said. β€œI love the course and I feel real comfortable on it.”

Sheldon Keyte of Portage, Mich., sits in second place at 2-under-par 140. Zachary Estep of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Brandon Ng of Toronto, Ontario round out the top-three positions tied at 1-under-par 141.

In the Girls Division, Kennedy started the day off strong with a front-nine 1-under-par 34 that included birdies on Nos. 1 and 3 β€” where her approach shot landed within inches of the hole. Despite a triple bogey on No. 15, she followed with a birdie on No. 17 and a par on No. 18 to finish with a two-day total 1-over-par 143 and one-stroke lead over the field.

Going into the final round, Kennedy is looking for a second AJGA victory and has no plans of making any changes to her game.

β€œWhy change anything if what you're doing is working,” Kennedy said. β€œI just plan on hitting the greens a whole lot more.”

Karen Chung of Livingston, N.J., and Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Toronto both sit tied for second at 2-over-par 144.
