KENNEDY TAKES EARLY LEAD AT WOODWARD VIDEO JUNIOR AT THE GREENBRIER
Play suspended in the Boys Division
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. Thunderstorms in the area forced the American Junior Golf Association Tournament Committee to suspend first-round play in the Boys Division at the Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier Saturday. Shawn Yim, 17, of Buford, Ga., shot a 4-under-par 67 to lead the Boys Division at the suspension of play. In the Girls Division, Casey Ann Kennedy, 17, of Venice, Fla., shot a 1-under-par 70 to take the early lead.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Woodward Video Junior at The Greenbrier features 99 players from 25 states and Canada. The field consists of 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 Greenbrier Meadows Course at 6,756 yards, while the Girls Division is playing the course at 6,068 yards.
The remainder of the first round will resume Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Second-round starting times will be delayed one hour.
In the Girls Division, Kennedy, who fired the only under-par round of the day, played solid. She carded birdies on Nos. 3 and 13.
I hit a really good drive [on No. 13] and stuck my approach shot to about 2 feet which set me up for an easy birdie, Kennedy said. There are a lot of good players here, so I'm just looking to play my own game.
Stani Schiavone of Bangor, Pa., is just one stroke back in second place after shooting an even-par 71. Hannah Kim of River Edge, N.J., sits in third after posting a 1-over-par 72.
