WERNER MEDALS CLAIMING SECOND EXEMPTION OF THE YEAR AT RIVERCUT

Eisenreich is Girls Division medalist at the Qualifier for the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship

SPRINGFIELD, MO. β€” Tanner Werner of Jackson, Mo., garnered medalist honors at the Qualifier for the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship carding a 3-under-par 69. Lindsey Eisenreich of Fenton, Mo., medaled in the Girls Division with a 3-over-par 75 at Rivercut Golf Course, Sunday.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Qualifier for the Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship was a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Rivercut Golf Course. The tournament field featured 76 boys and 12 girls, ages 12-18, from 10 states. The Boys Division is played the par-72 course at 6,947 yards, while the Girls Division played the course at 5,985 yards.

Rivercut Golf Course played to Werner's advantage. The heavy hitter played short irons and wedges most of the day. A perfect example was on No. 9 where he hit a cut down the left side of the narrow fairway to keep it in the short grass. From 145 yards out he hit a full pitching wedge and spun it to six feet from the hole and made his birdie putt. His five total birdies came on Nos. 1, 7, 9, 13 and 18.

β€œI missed a couple birdies I should have made,” 15-year-old Werner said. β€œI made some I shouldn't have too.”

Qualifying for the tournament are Landon Morgan of Edmond, Okla., Ryan Frederick of Lockport, Ill., Jordan Perceful of Muskogee, Okla., RayVaun Christenson of Ozark, Mo., Jeffery Lee of Overland Park, Kan., Kyle Menke of Fairfield, Iowa, David Bailey of Springfield, Mo., Conner Ribble of Texarkana, Ark., Jacob Burkholder of Sedalia, Mo., Christopher Reinert of Parkville, Mo., Joe Atkisson of Springfield, and Andrew Harrison of Prairie Village, Kan.

Choosing to take the AJGA Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in the tournament along with Werner are Chance Holden of Dexter, Mo., Charlie Saxon of Tulsa, Jeff Herzog of Colleyville, Texas, Brandon Liu of St. Albans, Mo., and Johnny Pak of Chesterfield, Mo.

In the Girls Division, Eisenreich shrugged off the heat and played her way to an exemption. It helps that she remembers how the course plays after finishing tied for twelfth in last year's tournament. Eisenreich made birdie on No. 11 when she hit a pitching wedge from 115 to three feet away from the hole.

β€œIt feels good to come out and play well,” Eisenreich said. β€œI had a rough time last week but I felt more in control of my swing today.”

Qualifying for the tournament are McCall Christopher of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Chloe Kittle also of Lee's Summit.

Taking the exemption in lieu of playing in this week's event along with Eisenreich was Sarah Wilburn of Bartlesville, Okla.
