LOUDON, Tenn. — John Skeadas of Savannah, Ga., and Brian Langley of Blacksburg, Va., lead the AJGA Knoxville Junior Open at 5-under-par 139 after the second round. Victoria Kiser of Orlando, Fla., leads the Girls Division at 5-under-par 139.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Knoxville Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Tennessee National Golf Club. The tournament field consists of 75 boys and 23 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states and Italy. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 7,210 yards, while the Girls Division is being played at 6,187 yards.
Skeadas made five birdies and three bogeys on the day to shoot a 2-under-par 70. He said his best shot came on the 589-yard par-5 fourth.
“I hit my pitching wedge from 115 yards tight for birdie,” Skeadas said. “I want to continue to hit fairways and greens tomorrow to improve my game.”
Langley's bogey-free round of 4-under-par 68 featured four birdies, one of which came on No. 18.
“No. 18 was really clutch for me today,” Langley said. “I hit three good shots to make birdie for the second day in a row.”
In third is Jacob Everts of Ooltewah, Tenn., at 4-under-par 140. In a three-way tie for fourth at 3-under-par 141 are Marshall Talkington of Jackson, Tenn., Eric Park of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Shawn Yim of Buford, Ga.
Kiser's second round of 5-under-par 67 featured six birdies and one bogey. She said her ball striking was really good today, but she looks to improve on her putting in tomorrow's final round.
“I hit every fairway and green within 15 feet of the hole on the front nine,” Kiser said. “My iron shots were just really close; I had five putts within six feet.”
Haley Stephens of Greer, S.C., sits in second at even-par 144. In third is Erica Popson of Davenport, Fla., at 1-over-par 145.
