SPIETH TAKES COMMANDING LEAD HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND AT THE TRADITIONS CLUB AT TEXAS A&M
Lee takes second-round lead in Girls Division at AJGA Championship at Traditions

BRYAN, Texas — Jordan Spieth of Dallas, held onto his first-round lead and will head into Sunday's final round six shots ahead of the competition. In the Girls Division, Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., carded a 1-over-par 73 to take a one-shot lead heading into final-round play.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Championship at Traditions is being held at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M. The tournament field consists of 87 boys and 51 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states and four foreign countries. Sixty-six hail from the home state of Texas. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 layout at 7,047 yards, while the Girls Division is being played at 6,135 yards.

Though he ended the day on a sour note after missing a 3-foot putt on No.18, Spieth had already set himself up to card a good round. Steady play was enough to propel Spieth ahead of the competition as he ended the round 1-over par and 1-under-par for the tournament. Spieth said it was off the tee where he found his groove.

“I was driving it well all day, getting it where it needed to go,” Spieth said. “I set myself up for easy approach shots. I hit it close and tapped in.”

Heading into Sunday's final round, Spieth said he has the same gameplan as he had for the first and second round.

“I'm not going to change anything for tomorrow,” Spieth said. “I'm going to come out firing and I'm going to have more confidence in my putter and we'll see what happens.”

Talor Gooch of Midwest City, Okla., and Jade Scott of Daingerfield, Texas, are tied for second with 5-over-par 149s. Curtis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., Chris Capo of Woodland Hills, Calif., Drew Dorsey and Andrew Green both of Edmond, Okla., are all tied for fourth with 6-over-par 150s.

In the Girls Division, Lee's consistent play led to an even-par front nine. Keeping her rhythm throughout the rest of the round, Lee was able to maintain control and let her putter do the work for her.

“I expected to play better and be under par,” Lee said. “My putting is what saved me. I made just about everything inside 15 feet to save par.”

Rounding out the Girls Division are Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., and Amelia Lewis of Jacksonville, Fla., both tied for second with 3-over-par 147s.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and 25 foreign countries.

Final-round tee times for the AJGA Championship at Traditions will run from 8:10-9:40 a.m., and 12:30-2:09 p.m., off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M.
