KIM LEADS TOMATOBANK SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CLASSIC AT 7-UNDER-PAR
Lin leads Girls Division by four strokes at Oak Valley Golf Club

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Chan Kim of Honolulu shot even-par 72 in the second round of the TomatoBank Southern California Classic Wednesday to keep his lead at 7-under-par 137. Tzu-Chi Lin of Hacienda Heights, Calif., used a second round of 5-under-par 67 to climb atop the leaderboard in the Girls Division at 7-under-par as well.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the TomatoBank Southern California Classic is a 54-hole stroke play event featuring 101 boys and 42 girls, ages 12-18. Nine states and four foreign countries are represented, with 117 juniors from California. The event is being staged on the par-72 Oak Valley Golf Club course with boys tees set at 6,894 yards and girls tees at 6,079 yards. A cut was made after the second round, leaving 58 boys with scores of 154 or better, and 22 girls with scores of 153 or better.

Kim said he did not strike the ball as well as he would have liked Wednesday, but, all things considered, he feels good about his position. Although he has never led an AJGA event entering the final round, Kim said his two-stroke lead would not affect his play.

“Two shots behind or two shots ahead feels the same to me,” he said. “Either way I still have to play well. I just have to keep trusting my swing and I should do well.”

Also in the top five in the Boys Division are Philip Chian of Covina, Calif., at 5-under-par 139 and Mark Alvarez of Pomona, Calif., at 4-under-par 140. Samuel Shin of Auckland, New Zealand and Nicholas Losole III of Scottsdale, Ariz., both sit at 2-under-par 142.

In the Girls Division, Lin said she had played at Oak Valley only one time prior to the TomatoBank Southern California Classic, but that the course has always been good to her. After an eagle on Tuesday and five birdies on Wednesday, Lin said she does not plan on changing much for Thursday's final round.

“I plan to just play my own pace tomorrow,” Lin said. “Nothing special.”

Also in the red after two days are Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, Calif., at 3-under-par 141 and Victoria Sungmin Park of Irvine, Calif., at 1-under-par 143.
