Hurst, Kaneko tied for second at White Manor Country Club

MALVERN, Pa.- After the first round of the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, Diane Kwon of Fremont, Calif., leads by one stroke carding a 2-under-par 69 at White Manor Country Club. Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., and Ayaka Kaneko of Honolulu, are tied for second posting 1-under-par 70s.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event held at White Manor Country Club. This is one of two girls-only Invitational events the AJGA holds each season. The 78-player field features players from 21 states, Canada and Peru. The par-71 course is being played at 6,118 yards.

Kwon said her putting was the best part of her game. Birdies on Nos. 3, 6, 7, 14 and 16 for a 2-under-par 33 on the front nine and an even-par 36 on the back nine showed her abilities.

“Even if I missed the greens, I still got up and down,” said Kwon. “So it didn't matter.”

Kwon, who has placed in the top 10 in two events this season, said although it is only the first round, she is still excited to be in the lead.

Hurst and Kaneko are tied for second posting 1-under-par 70s. Trailing close behind in fourth place are Kristina Wong of Bradenton, Fla., Rebecca Lederhausen of Hinsdale, Ill., and Milena Savich of Carmel, Ind., all recording even-par 71s.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.

Second-round tee times will run from 8-10 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. For more information about the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship, please contact tournament headquarters at (770) 601-5196.
