HE LEADS BOYS DIVISION WITH 5-UNDER-PAR 67 AT RANDY WISE JUNIOR OPEN
Warner leads Girls Division by 3-strokes

FLINT, Mich.,- After the first round of the Randy Wise Junior Open Zeyu He of Bradenton, Fla., leads the Boys Division firing a 5-under-par 67. Shannon Warner of Livonia, Mich., leads the Girls Division carding a 1-under-par 71.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Randy Wise Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play event held at Flint Elks 222 Lodge Golf Club. The 99-player field features players from 20 states, Canada and South Korea. The course is being played at 6,922 yards for the Boys Division and 6,093 yards in the Girls Division.

He said he treated this tournament like any other focusing on his short game. Birdieing Nos. 4, 7 and 9, He was 1-over-par 37 as he made the turn. With birdies on Nos. 10, 15, 16 and 17 and an eagle on No. 11 He posted a 6-under-par 30 on the back nine.

“It was a pretty good experience for me,” He said. “I just want to keep my rhythm and my good feeling about my game for tomorrow.”

In second is Jae Han Chun of Ansung-City, South Korea posting a 3-under-par 69. Colin Van Es of Granger, Ind., and Alex Bennett of Rochester, Mich., carded 1-under-par 71s for third. Tied for fifth are Tyler Duncan of Columbus, Ind., Derek Baade of St. Joseph, Mo., and Matt Fuller of Clarkston, Mich., all with even-par 72s.

In the Girls Division, Warner said patience and keeping a good attitude was the key to getting atop the leaderboard.

“I hit the ball well, and kept it in play,” Warner said. “I made a lot of pars.”

Coming into the clubhouse 3-strokes behind the leader are Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, Calif., and Milena Savich of Carmel, Ind., with 2-over-par 74s.
