WORRELL TAKES MEDALIST HONORS AT SRIXON QUALIFIER FOR RAND GRAPHICS - WILDCAT GOLF WICHITA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Schorgl and Yowell tie in the Girls Division

WICHITA, Kan. — Chris Worrell of Enid, Okla., posted a 1-under-par 71 Monday to take the Boys Division medalist honors at the Rand Graphics - Wichita Golf Wichita Junior Championship Srixon Qualifier at Crestview Country Club — North Course. In the Girls Division, Carolyn Schorgl of Leawood, Kan., and Audrey Yowell of McPherson, Kan., were named co-medalists after finishing with 5-over-par 77s.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Rand Graphics - Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship Srixon Qualifier was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Crestview Country Club — North Course. The 98-player field featured juniors from 16 states. The course was played at 6,838 yards for the Boys Division and 6,010 yards for the Girls Division.

With a steady rhythm of consistent play, Worrell carded three birdies and two bogeys en route to his 1-under-par round.

“I felt like I had started out pretty bad,” Worrell said. “But then I told myself that I had to get it in gear.”

Andrew Sajevic of Fremont, Neb., and Korbin Kuehn of Overland Park, Kan. tied with even-par 72s to take second and qualify for this week's tournament. After a seven-person, one hole playoff , Kevin Gillick of Lincoln, Neb., Severiano Smith of Webb City, Mo., Derek Myers of Edmond, Okla., Tyler Russell of Elk City, Okla., John Sabio of Saint Louis, Mo., and Chandler Rusk of Edmond, Okla. also qualified to play.

Schorgl acknowledged the importance of the practice round she played Sunday when discussing the success of her round.

“Knowing how to play the yardages coming in today was good,” she said. “The positioning in spots on this course is what makes it tough. It was good to know when to lay up or when to not hit my driver.”

Co-medalist Yowell will stay in Wichita to play in this week's event, while Schorgl opted to take a Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing.

Also qualifying for this week's tournament were Gianna Misenhelter of Overland Park, Kan., and Jordan Woods of Brownsburg, Ind. Kaira Martin of Paradise Valley, Ariz., qualified, but opted to take a Tournament Exemption.
