SCHOOLCRAFT LEADS BOYS DIVISION WITH 6-UNDER-PAR 66 AT REDSTONE GOLF CLUB
Teachman leads Girls Division by one stroke
HUMBLE, Texas After the first round of the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship, Beau Schoolcraft of Englewood, Colo., leads the Boys Division after carding a 6-under-par 66. Tessa Teachman of Baton Rouge, La., leads the Girls Division with a 3-under-par 69.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Redstone Golf Club The Jacobsen Hardy Course. The 84-player field features players from 10 states and Uruguay. The course played at 7,132 yards for the Boys Division and 6,190 yards for the Girls Division.
Schoolcraft said with the pressure of the competition from his fellow AJGA players he tries a little harder than normal. With eight birdies he showed how to stay on top of the leaderboard.
I played pretty consistent, it was easy to hit the greens, Schoolcraft said. You just have to make putts when you have the opportunity.
Putting is where Schoolcraft felt the most comfortable but he said he needs to improve his drives before beginning Wednesday's second round.
Coming in second in the Boys Division are John Peterson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Riley Pumphrey of Georgetown, Texas, each carding a 5-under-par 67. Cory Whitsett of Houston and Adam Wennerstrom of Austin, Texas, follow them in fourth place with 4-under-par 68s.
Playing in her first AJGA tournament round, Teachman leads in a field that includes many Polo Golf Ranked-players. Like Schoolcraft, Teachman said the competition helped her momentum most.
With everyone playing well it helped to keep me driving birdies, Teachman said.
After birdies on Nos. 1 and 9, along with no bogeys for the day, Teachman said she simply had fun playing today.
Following one stroke behind Teachman are Lila Barton of Dallas and Sarah Beth Davis of Victoria, Texas with 2-under-par 70s.
