MITCHELL PUTTS HIS WAY TO VICTORY AT SRIXON QUALIFIER FOR FIDELITY INVESTMENTS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Teachman birdies three in a row to take Girls Division medalist honors

CYPRESS, Texas — Mitchell Cahill of Houston, carded a 1-under-par 71 Sunday, making him the Boys Division medalist of the Srixon Qualifier for the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship at BlackHorse Golf Club — North Course. Tessa Teachman of Baton Rouge, La., was the medalist of the Girls Division after posting a 4-over-par 76.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship Srixon Qualifier was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Blackhorse Golf Club — North Course. The 100-player field featured players from eight states. The course played at 6,907 yards for the Boys Division and 5,982 yards in the Girls Division.

With three birdies, two bogeys and only 24 putts, Cahill said he felt confident throughout his entire game. He hopes to continue his play in the tournament, which will be played on his home course of Redstone Golf Course.

“I hit the ball alright and made everything I looked at,” Cahill said. “My short game was pretty good.”

Also qualifying for the tournament running June 4-7 in the Boys Division were Ryan O'Rear of Salado, Texas, Ryan Prasad of The Woodlands, Texas, Thomas Tatum of Dallas, Zack Smith of Carthage, Texas, True Graves of Odessa, Texas, and Kirk Edmondson of Dallas. Qualifying via sudden-death playoff were Matthew Seligmann of Houston, Michael Young of Dallas, and Hudson Hansard of Austin, Texas.

Qualifying but opting to take a Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing this week's event were Blake Wilson of League City, Texas, Ryan Kelley of The Woodlands, Texas, James Han of Carrollton, Texas, Joseph Reynolds of Houston, Patrick Deichert of Dallas, Travis Chrietzberg of Longview, Texas, Brian Swanson of Katy, Texas, Scott Ward of Spring, Texas, James Clingman of San Antonio, Texas, and Miles Hindsman of Austin, Texas.

Although Teachman said she struggled with some of her putts, her game changed after the turn. She said she hopes to continue her strong game Monday in the practice round while learning the course.

“I made three birdies in a row,” Teachman said. “I really enjoyed playing the course.”

Also qualifying for this week's tournament were Kristen Dorsey of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Kayli Quinton of Cypress, Texas.

Qualifying but opting to take a Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing this week's event were Shannon Jungman of Pflugerville, Texas, and Casey Grice of College Station, Texas.
