NEW COURSE RECORDS FIRED AT LANGDON FARMS GOLF CLUB
Whitsett, Brown leave marks on Nike Golf Junior Championship with 7-under-par 64s

AURORA, Ore. β€” Cory Whitsett of Houston, has taken a commanding seven-stroke lead after firing a 36-hole total of 129 in the Boys Division going into Sunday's final round at the Nike Golf Junior Championship. Sarah Brown of Stewartsville, N.J., went 74-64-138 to lead the Girls Division by two strokes at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

The Nike Golf Junior Championship is a 54-hole Championship, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, at Langdon Farms Golf Club. The 72-player field boasts juniors from 21 state, Canada, Japan and Mexico. The Nike Golf Junior Championship is the final event of the Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series. The Nike Golf Junior Championship features the top-5 boys and top-3 girls from the past 10 Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series events.

Whitsett's first-round 64 is the new competitive course record at Langdon Farms Golf Club. Whitsett said the low two-day total and new course record is enough to make his day.

β€œThe news is good to hear, makes me feel good,” Whitsett said. β€œIt was one of those rounds where everything came together.”

Heading into the final round, Whitsett said his goal is to shoot low and aim for the greens.

β€œI would like to break 200, that would be a sweet way to end the summer,” Whitsett said. β€œI want to hit more greens, that's how I did so well today.”

Rounding out the Boys Division in second is Jordan Rumora of Houston, seven strokes back with a 136. Byeong-hun An of Seongnam, South Korea, stands alone in third place with a two-round total of 5-under-par 137. Cameron Peck of Olympia, Wash., is in fourth at 3-under-par 139. Tied for fifth with scores of 141 are Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., and Sam Smith of Turlock, Calif.

Carding a personal low-round score of 7-under-par 64, Brown had seven birdies on the day en route to leaderboard honors. The new course record was news to Brown but music to her ears.

β€œI'm surprised to hear but excited,” Brown said. β€œI wanted to shoot 67 or better and now I have my new personal record.”

At four under heading into the back nine, Brown said she was just trying to keep herself calm.

β€œIt wasn't hard, but it was definitely nerve-racking,” Brown said.

Rounding out the Girls Division tied for second are Ani Gulugian and Victoria Sungmin Park, both of Irvine, Calif., with a 36-hole total of 2-under-par 140.
