YOON SECURES VICTORY AT FIDELITY INVESTMENTS JUNIOR OPEN
Joanne Lee holds on by one stroke at Ruby Hill Golf Club

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Sean Ouhyun Yoon of Temecula, Calif., and Joanne Lee of San Carlos, Calif., both collected their first American Junior Golf Association tournament victories respectively, by holding off the field by a single stroke. Yoon fired a final round 4-under-par 68, while Lee carded a 1-over-par 73.

The Fidelity Investments Junior Open, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, was a 54-hole stroke play event held at Ruby Hill Golf Club. The field included 84 players from 10 states, Alberta and British Columbia with 67 from the host state of California.

Yoon came into the day tied for second place and looking to make a move up the leaderboard. He used five birdies and an eagle to make his charge. Yoon had an idea he was in the lead as he stepped on to the No. 18 tee box, but was shocked to find out it was by only one stroke. Ren Han of Richmond, British Columbia, who finished in second, was already in the clubhouse with a Ruby Hill Golf Club tournament record of 7-under-par 65 for the final round.

“I had no idea how close it was coming down to the wire, had I known though, I don't think I would have done anything differently,” Yoon said. “I really worked and prayed hard for this moment, and it means a lot to finally win an AJGA tournament.”

Eric Mina of Fremont, Calif., finished in third with a tournament total of 5-under-par 211. In fourth was Cameron Peck of Olympia, Washington, with a 4-under-par 212. Rounding out the top five was Jake Sarnoff of Manhattan Beach, Calif., with a tournament total of 213.

Lee put together a very consistent final round finding herself tied for the lead most of the day with Emily Childs of Alameda, Calif. The two were deadlocked for a majority of the back nine until Childs found trouble on No. 17 carding a bogey. With a one stroke lead coming into the final hole, Lee collected herself and was able to make par to seal the victory.

“Winning today feels like such an accomplishment,” Lee said. “I've been playing AJGA for some time now and this is a great way to finish my summer.”

Finishing in second was Childs with a 1-over-par 217 and in third was Jessica Wallace of Langley, British Columbia, after firing a three day total of 219.
