MINA TAKES SECOND-ROUND LEAD AT FIDELITY INVESTMENTS JUNIOR OPEN
Joanne Lee comes from behind to lead Girls Division

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Eric Mina of Fremont, Calif., fired a 3-under-par 69 to take the lead in the Boys Division at Ruby Hill Golf Club. Joanne Lee of San Carlos, Calif., took a second-round lead after shooting a low round 1-under-par 71 to lead the Girls Division by two strokes.

The Fidelity Investments Junior Open, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Ruby Hill Golf Club. The field includes 84 players from 10 states, Alberta and British Columbia with 67 from the host state of California. Nicole Ferrero of Lodi, Calif., 2005 Girls Division Champion, and runner-up in the Boys Division Gregor Main of Danville, Calif., will look to repeat last years performance.

After finishing first-round play in ninth place, Mina carded five birdies to lead the Boys Division by one stroke. Mina said coming into the round, he knew he had tough competition and had to play well.

“I had to come out quick,” Mina said. “I thought I had to shoot close to five under to be with the leaders after yesterday's round.”

Leading the field by only one stroke, Mina will be focusing on each shot to ensure a low final round.

“I want to take one shot at a time,” Mina said. “I'm not focusing on the win; I just want to play well.”

Rounding out the Boys Division tied for second place are Alex Shi Yup Kim of Fullerton, Calif., and Sean Ouhyun Yoon of Temecula, Calif., one stroke back. Jake Sarnoff of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Geoff Gonzalez of Diablo, Calif., Cameron Peck of Olympia, Wash., and Max Bonk of Kamuela, Hawaii, are all tied for fourth with scores of 2-under-par 142s.

Tied for second after first-round play, Lee came out with a mission to shoot low and ended the day with three birdies to go 1-under-par 143 for the tournament.

“I wanted to shoot my best and make more birdies,” Lee said. “My iron shots are what helped; I don't think I missed any fairways today.”

Going into the final round, Lee said she'll be focusing on her short game to help capture the win at Ruby Hill Golf Club.

“I need to hit more greens and make more putts,” Lee said. “With this course if you putt well, you can win.”

In second place after two rounds of play is Emily Childs of Alameda, Calif., with a score of 1-over-par 145. Nara Kim of Diamond Bar,Calif., and Jessica Wallace of Langley, British Columbia, round out the Girls Division top three at four strokes back 147.
