CHUNG CLINCHES LESSING'S AJGA CLASSIC WITH TOURNAMENT TOTAL 201
Donovan fires 65 to seal victory in Girls Division

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. β€” David Yujin Chung of Fayetteville, N.C, hit clutch shots and made putts en route to sealing his first-ever AJGA victory at the Lessing's AJGA Classic on the White Course of the Eisenhower Park Golf Course Thursday. Kimberly Donovan of Hopkinton, Mass., carded a personal low-round of 65 to clinch the Girls Division by six strokes.

In the Boys Division, Chung was eager to make a run for his first-ever AJGA title Thursday.

β€œI have always been in contention at Open events, but it feels good to finish it off this time,” Chung said. β€œI came to win and I am glad I pulled through.”

Chung hit 15 greens and eight fairways in regulation and carded 30 putts in his 4-under-par 68 round. He had six birdies, three of which came on the back nine.

β€œOn No. 13, I missed the green, but got up-and-down with a flop shot to four feet,” Chung said. β€œI made a slider to save par, which ended up being a key moment for me.”

Dominic Bozzelli of Pittsford, N.Y., and Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., tied for second at tournament total 204. Anthony Aloi of Plainsboro, N.J., and Johnny DelPrete of Palm City, Fla., claimed fourth and fifth with tournament totals of 205 and 206, respectively.

In the Girls Division, Donovan only needed 24 putts in her 7-under-par 65 round. The 65 she carded Thursday was her career-low and was a great accomplishment for her, considering the injuries she has faced in the last two months.

β€œI just came off a season full of injuries, which included a sprained wrist and ankle, a pulled hamstring, and a bruised bone in my wrist,” Donovan said. β€œComing back and playing well after two months of healing, is a real boost of confidence.”

Donovan showed she was healthy Thursday by hitting 14 greens and 12 fairways in regulation and carding eight birdies.

β€œOn No. 1 I stuck it to one foot and made the putt for birdie,” Donovan said. β€œIt was a great way to get rolling and that is where I gained the most momentum of the day.”

A birdie on No. 18 was just one of Donovan's great showings on the day.

β€œI hit a solid driver down the middle on No. 15 and left a 7-iron short in the bunker on an uphill slope,” Donovan said. β€œI chunked it out, but left it on the fringe and made the 20-foot putt to save par.”

Becca Huffer of Denver finished second with a tournament total 214 and Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., sealed third with a tournament total 216.
