JAMES' 8-UNDER PAR 64 LEADS IN EAST MEADOW
Donovan and Nam tied in Girls Division at Lessing's AJGA Classic

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Camrin James of Jackson, N.H., fired a first-round 8-under par 64 to take the first round lead of the Lessing's AJGA Classic on Tuesday. The Boys Division featured 25 players who carded rounds under par during the first day. In the Girls Division, Kimberly Donovan of Hopkinton, Mass., and Ana Nam of Bayside, N.Y. sit tied at even-par 72.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the eighth-annual Lessing's AJGA Classic is a par 72, 54-hole tournament being held on the White Course at the Eisenhower Park Golf Course for the second consecutive year. The Boys Division is playing at 6,868 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,164 yards. The field includes 84 players, including 63 boys and 21 girls, ages 12-18, from 18 states and Canada.

In the Boys Division, James took advantage of a bogey-free round, to capture the first-round lead. James birdied his first hole of the day, and proceeded to make three more birdies on the front side, making the turn at 4-under par 32. The New Hampshire native showed little signs of slowing up on the back nine, carding four more birdies, including the 510-yard par-5 finishing hole.

“I hit 16 greens today,” James said. “I was able to get up-and-down both times I missed the green,” he added. “I feel like I'm able to score well on this course and hopefully I can continue to do so this week."

Sitting behind James in second is Fayetteville, N.C., native David Yujin Chung, who carded an opening-round 65. Chung, a Rolex Junior All-American, needed only 26 putts during the first round. Tied for third at 66 are Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., and John Olsen of Mahwah, N.J.

In the Girls Division, Donovan's even-par opening round was enough to give her a share of the lead. Donovan, a Rolex Junior All-American, had three birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday.

“I hit the ball awesome today,” Donovan said. “I hit the flag twice,” she said. “Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make any putts, but I'm feeling really good."

Nam's round featured four birdies, including three on the back nine.

“I was able to recover on the back side and make some birdies,” Nam said. “I was really able to take advantage of my short game.”

Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., and Katie Conway of Wading River, N.Y., sit tied for third at 1-over par 73.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA, the largest Association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.
