KRUG GAINS ENTRY INTO FIDELITY INVESTMENTS JUNIOR AT TRUMP NATIONAL
Brightwell, Curley capture co-medalist honors in Girls Division

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. β€” Taylor Krug of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., claimed medalist honors with his 2-under-par 70 Monday at the Srixon Qualifier for the Fidelity Investments Junior at Trump National. In the Girls Division, Christine Curley of Vienna, Va., and Elizabeth Brightwell of Nellysford, Va., shot matching 75s to take home co-medalist honors.

The Srixon Qualifer was an 18-hole event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Royce Brook Golf Club's West Course. The field included 101 players, including 85 boys and 16 girls, ages 12-18, from 15 states. The top 12 players from the Boys Division and the top three players from the Girls Division qualified to play in the Fidelity Investments Junior at Trump National July 18-21, 2006.

Krug, 17, played a solid round that included five birdies, two 35-foot putts, and a few clutch saves for par.

β€œI hit a bad drive off No. 2 tee, punched out, hit a good shot from 200 yards and two putted to save par,” Krug said. β€œI birdied the next two holes, which got my confidence going early.”

The idea of playing in this week's event was very enticing to Krug.

β€œI am excited to play Trump National Golf Club,” Krug said. β€œI heard it was a hard, but fun golf course.”

Eleven others qualified in the Boys Division including Michael Furci of Sayville, N.Y., Jason Frankel of Phoenix, Md., Samuel Ryder of Rosemont, Pa., David Godvin of Dallas, Brad Miller of Timonium, Md., Christopher Gatzak of Farmington, Conn., and Michael Turner of Baden, Pa., Jeff Smolar of Jackson, N.J., Timothy Rosenhouse of Dix Hills, N.Y., Steven Scialo of New City, N.Y., and Neal McCarty of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Josh Webb of Sparta, N.J., Andrew Lawson of West Chester, Pa., and Drew Baity of Greenwich, Conn., chose to take a tournament exemption in lieu of playing in this week's event.

In the Girls Division, a solid iron game assisted Curley in her 37-38 -75 round.

β€œI only missed three greens and on No. 6, I hit a 5-iron out of the rough to seven feet and made the birdie putt,” Curley said.

Brightwell said she felt honored to have such an amazing opportunity to play in the Fidelity Investments Junior at Trump National.

β€œIt should be really fun and interesting,” Brightwell said. β€œI would not have the chance to see Trump National Golf Club or play it otherwise.”
