BLANN MEDALS IN BOYS DIVISION QUALIFIER WITH 1-OVER-PAR 71
Burrell tops Girls Division qualifiers by two shots

ASHLAND, Ky. — Kentucky natives Seth Blann of Bowling Green and Kelsey Burrell of Franklin garnered top honors at the Srixion Qualifier Series, earning spots in the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior tournament that is slated to begin Wednesday. Blann medaled by carding a 1-over-par 71 to take the Boys Division, while Burrell medaled in the Girls Division with a two-stroke victory.

The Srixion Qualifier for the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior was an 18-hole qualifier conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Bellefonte Country Club in Ashland, Ky. The 91-qualifier field boasted juniors from 18 states.

Playing in only his second AJGA event, Blann fired birdies on Nos. 1 and 9 to give him a 1-under-par 34 on the front-nine. In his first Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior, he topped the 81 boys qualifier field by a single shot.

“My home course plays tight like this,” Blann said. “There are a lot of good players in this field and being a medalist is a big confidence booster going into the week. I'm ready to play in the tournament because this course fits well to my game.”

Also qualifying in the Boys Division were Lexington, Ky., natives Miles Bell and Brian Fister, and Jasper, Ala., natives Victor Bocos and Andrew Freeman. Andrew Mackessy of Dublin, Ohio, Zane Hall of Clermont, Fla., Ben Wolfe of Duluth, Ga., William Mason of Bridgeport, W.Va., Kevin Dunn of Prospect, Ky., and Eric Carnacchi of Dearborn, Mich., also advanced into the tournament.

Burrell secured her spot in the tournament field by shooting a round of 81, including a birdie on the eighth hole.

“This course plays real tight, so my strategy was to hit straight into the fairway,” Burrell said. “Today I needed to make my putts and I was able to accomplish that. My iron shots need some work so that I am able to make more birdies.”

Shayla Forsey of Morristown, Tenn., Emily Bachert of Bowling Green, Ky., and Kristi Beam of Alvaton, Ky. also advanced into the tournament.
