MCALLISTER TOPS BOYS DIVISION AFTER CARDING 7 BIRDIES
Pancake leads the field with a second round 68 at the Hargray Junior Classic

BLUFFTON, S.C. — Tripp Mcallister of Lake City, S.C., fired a 70-66-136 to take a 3-stroke lead after the second round of the Hargray Junior Classic Thursday. Brooke Pancake of Chattanooga, Tenn., stands at 74-68-142 in the Girls Division and leads the field by two strokes.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Hargray Junior Classic is a 54-hole stroke-play competition that features 84 boys and girls from 14 states and 2 foreign countries. The event is being held at Hampton Hall Club in Bluffton, S.C.

In the Boys Division, Mcallister attributed his low score to strong iron play, hitting 16 greens in regulation. Many of his iron shots landed just inches from the hole and he was able to capitalize by making seven birdies on the day.

“I was hitting it close enough I didn't have to make long putts,” Mcallister said. “If you putt well, you can put up a low score.”

Drew Ernst of Seneca, S.C., is in second with a tournament total 139 heading into the final round. Kent Bulle of Glasgow, Ky., Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., Aaron Eckstein of Salem, Va., Major Forbess of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Muscatell of Lake Wylie, S.C., Austin Parks of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Eric Shaw of Longwood, Fla., all tied for third with 3-under-par tournament total 141s at Hampton Hall Club.

In the Girls Division, Pancake hit 16 greens and had six birdies on the day despite struggling on her first nine holes.

“The front side was rough for me,” Pancake said. “When I made the turn, everything felt right and I had four birdies in a row.”

Pancake hopes to keep her momentum going into the final round and claim her first ever AJGA victory.

“I plan to stay focused on the goal, which is to win my first AJGA event,” Pancake said. “It would be an honor.”

Dolores White of Lakeland, Fla., is in second with a tournament total 144 and Molly Plomaritis of Eden, N.C., leaped into third Thursday with a Girls Division low-round score of 67.
