The Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series is a collection of 10 events specifically designed for boys and girls ages 12 — 15 years old. The competition provides an opportunity for younger members to develop their skills and earn entry into open tournaments. The series concludes with an invitation-only Nike Golf Junior Championship, Sept. 1 — 3, 2006 in Aurora, Ore.
Andrews, 15, shot a 2-under-par 70, to win the tournament by four strokes after leading by one stroke going into the Final Round. Andrews made three birdies in Thursday's Final Round to solidify his win.
“Today was a grinding day,” Andrews said. “You just aim for par and take birdies as they come.” Despite the high temperatures Andrews said the tournament was great.
“I love coming here,” Andrews said.
Following Andrews in a tie for second place with tournament totals of 212 were Evan Beck of Virginia Beach, Va., and Hojin Kang of Longwood, Fla. In a tie for fourth place were Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., and Peter Meeks of Sarasota, Fla., who carded tournament totals of 215.
In the Girls Division Koller carded a Final Round 82 giving her a total score of 229 for the tournament and her first AJGA win. Koller said what makes her most proud is that the Nike Golf Junior at Jacksonville is only her second AJGA event.
“I just played my game and had so much fun,” Koller said. “I'm so glad I came.”
Tied for second place were Zakiya Randall of Atlanta and Eugene Ahn of Chapel Hill, N.C., who carded matching tournament total 233s.
