ROIG, YADLOCZKY HOLD 3-STROKE LEAD AT NIKE GOLF JUNIOR AT FORT MYERS
Hester leads Boys Division by 1-stroke leading into final round

MIROMAR LAKES, Fla. â€” The sun broke through Wednesday for the second round of the Nike Golf Junior at Fort Myers as Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Carlie Yadloczky of Casselberry, Fla., tied for the lead with a tournament total 149 in the Girls Division. In the Boys Division, Dean Hester of Dublin, Ga., topped the leaderboard and will go into the final round Thursday with a 1-stroke lead.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Nike Golf Junior at Fort Myers is a 54-hole stroke-play competition that features 76 boys and girls, ages 12-15, from 20 states and three foreign countries. The Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club is hosting the event for the third consecutive year.

Roig carded a 37-35—72 and attributed her success to the advice she received from her father on the practice green Tuesday evening.

“He told me that every time I had a birdie or par putt, I should try to leave it short and let it die in the hole, and it worked,” Roig said.

Yadloczky also credited her lead going into the final round to her short game after firing a 39-36—75.

“I made two chip-ins to save par and the third one lipped out,” Yadloczky said. “In the final round I am going to try to hit more greens and concentrate more.”

Christina Miller of Bradenton, Fla., completed the day with a 157 tournament total, while Lauren English of Bloomington, Ill., and Ginger Howard of Bradenton, Fla., finished the day with totals of 154 and 156, respectively.

In the Boys Division, Hester struggled to make long birdie putts, but relied on his accurate driver and irons to keep him on top going into the final round.

“I had to hit it stiff to make birdie,” Hester said, who had two birdies on the day. “I made the short putts, but I couldn't get any of the 15-footers to drop.”

Three juniors, Hojin Kang of Longwood, Fla., Kyle English of Bloomington, Ill., and Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., are tied heading into the final round with a tournament total 144.
