MCHENRY CARDS 68 TO TAKE CHARGE AT TOP OF THE LEADERBOARD
Do protects her top spot in the Girls Division

WICHITA, Kan. — Connor McHenry of Jefferson City, Mo., fired a 68 to stand at the top of the Boys Division with a 5-under-par 139 after second round play at the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship. Brianna Do of Lakewood, Calif., remains ahead in the Girls Division, finishing with a score of 73 to be in the top spot with a 3-under-par 142.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event held at the Crestview Country Club-North Course in Wichita, Kan. The tournament features 63 boys and 21 girls — ages 12-18 — from 15 states including five Rolex Junior All-Americans and defending champions Do and Kevin Tway of Edmond, Okla.

Playing his way to the top of the Boys Division after carding three birdies in the second round, McHenry leads by one stroke. First-round leader Cameron Meyers, of Edmond, Okla., is one stroke behind with a score of 66-74—140.

Going into the second round with the mindset of finishing at top of the leaderboard, McHenry made a solid push within the field of play.

“The turning point for me was when I came up short of the green on No. 9, but chipped in for eagle to turn my game around,” McHenry said.

Going into the third round of play, McHenry has two goals to stay at the top of the Boys Division.

“I just want to hit my irons well and make birdies, not bogeys,” explained McHenry.

Finishing his second round with a 36-38—74, Meyers is tied with William Kropp, of Edmond, Okla. Geoff Shaw also of Edmond, is in third place with a 71-71—142. Tied for fifth place are Austin Quinten of Sand Springs, Okla., and Kevin Tway of Edmond, Okla., both finishing with 143s.

Do, who won the tournament in 2005 by seven strokes, carded a 37-36—73 to lead the Girls Division with an overall score of 2-under-par 142.

“I was more relaxed (Thursday) and not as nervous as yesterday. I just wanted to play my own game, shot by shot,” Do said.

Christine Song of Fullerton Calif., finished with a 72-73—145 after making two birdies in the second round. Only two strokes behind Song are Emily Johnson of Warsaw, Ind., Caitlin Bliss of Katy, Texas, and Becca Huffer of Denver, Colo., all at 3-over-par 147
