THREE-WAY TIE ROUNDS OUT BOYS LEADERBOARD AT SRIXON QUALIFIER
Bird finishes 77 to be at top of the Girls Division

WICHITA, Kan. — Jordan Reinertson of Gibbon, Neb., along with Brandon Hystad and Kory Harrell of Colorado Springs, Colo., topped the Boys Division with a score of 71 during the Srixon Qualifier for the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship at Auburn Hills Golf Course. Mary Bird of Kansas City, Mo., shot a 77 to have a four-stroke advantage within the Girls Division.

The Srixon Qualifier for the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship was an 18-hole event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Auburn Hills Golf Course and featured 95 players representing 13 states. Eleven boys and two girls qualified for the three-day tournament at Crestview Country Club-North Course.

Reinertson, Hystad and Harrell finished with the top scores of 1-under-par 71, after having the same goal in mind: to play their best and to qualify.

“My goal was to go around the course and play mistake-free golf in order to just qualify,” Hystad said.

“I was a little nervous at first, but my goal was to play well enough to qualify,” Reinertson said.

Solid putting and driving were the strong points for the co-medalists during the round.

“I putted well and was up and down all day long to save my game,” Harrell said. “The front-nine played tight, it demanded accuracy and a great drive.”

In the Girls Division, Bird drove herself to the top position by playing her own game after playing in 2005 and not qualifying for the tournament.

“Last year was difficult because the greens were tough and I didn't qualify, but this year the greens were easier and I was able to turn my game around,” said Bird.

Bird decided to have a tournament exemption added to her Performance Based Entry status in lieu of playing in this week's tournament.

With the wind playing a varying factor on each nine, Bird found herself going back and forth on the course all day long.

“Wind played a big role and I was coming up short on some greens, but I still had a good front-nine,” Bird explained

Also qualifying for the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship were Tyler Bernard of Leawood, Kan., Noah Smithson of Andover, Kan., Ben Hargis of Amarillo, Texas, Hayden Hughes of Stillwater, Okla., Matthew Garcia of Burlingame, Calif., Andrew Grider of Edmond, Okla., David James of Warren, Mich., and Kevin Stanek of Bellevue, Neb. Logan Thorp of Lees Summit, Mo., and Crystal Reeves of Broken Arrow, Okla., qualified in the Girls Division. Sam Mysock of Tulsa, Okla., Tommy Kennedy of Mission Hills, Kan., Chris Kovach of St. Louis, decided to take a tournament exemption in lieu of playing in this week's tournament
