THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD FRASIER LEADS GIRLS DIVISION AFTER FIRST ROUND
Two 70s atop Boys Division leader board

SAN RAMON, Calif.- Thirteen-year-old Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, Calif., is leading the Girls Division of the CORE Realty Holdings Junior Championship with a 1-under-par 71 following the first round of play on Saturday. In the Boys Division, Connor Driscoll of Encinitas, Calif., and Andrew Yun of Tacoma, Wash., each carded a 70 to share the first-round lead.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the CORE Realty Holdings Junior Championship is being held at The Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon, Calif. The par-72 course is set up at 6659 yards for the Boys Division and 5955 for the Girls. The tournament field consists of 59 boys and 24 girls from 10 states and Canada. There are 60 residents from the state of California.

Frasier, who is playing in her sixth AJGA event, shot a front-nine 37, then finished strong with birdies on Nos. 14, 16 and 17, to end the day with a 1-under-par 71.

“I'm pretty excited about my lead, but tomorrow is what really matters,” said Frasier, who is in the eighth grade. “Tomorrow is a whole new day and I can't worry about my standing. I just need to focus on one shot at a time.”

Jane Rah of Torrance, Calif., shot a 72 and Christine Song of Fullerton, Calif., carded a 74 to round out the Girls Division top three after the first day of the tournament.

In the Boys Division, Driscoll opened his day with a bogey on No. 10, but quickly found his groove, making birdies on two of the next four holes. On his back-nine Driscoll birdied three holes, including No. 7, a 178-yard, par-3, to card a first round 70.

“I focus too much on my score sometimes, so today I wanted to focus on hitting good shots,” said Driscoll, who has never led an AJGA event. “Tomorrow I am going to try not to think about where everyone else is at and instead just hit putts like I did today.”

Yun shot a 2-under-par 34 on his front-nine, making par on his first seven holes, followed by birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. Yun bogeyed No. 11, but came back with a birdie on No. 17, a 539-yard par-5, to end with an even 36 on the back.

“You have to be patient with this course,” said Yun, a 2005 honorable mention Rolex Junior All-American. “I hit a lot of greens today, so that took the pressure off of me. Tomorrow I want to have fun and again play my own game.”

Christopher Cho of Kent, Wash., is currently in third place with a 1-under-par 71, just one stroke behind the leaders. Seven players are tied for fourth at 1-over-par 73, including Heejoo Son of Torrance, Calif., Philip Francis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jackie Lindsey of Houston, Hyun Seok Lim of Fullerton, Calif., Jake Bieber of Alamo, Calif., David Caplinger of Indio, Calif., and Branden Barron of Aurora, Colo.
