RIVES, WOLFE SHARE MEDALIST HONORS AT THE TRADITIONS OF BRASELTON
Twelve players qualify for the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan

JEFFERSON, Ga. — Local boys Jeff Rives of Roswell, Ga., and Ben Wolfe of Duluth, Ga., shot 1-under-par 70 to medal at the Srixon Qualifier for the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. In the Girls Division, Austin Ernst of Seneca, S.C., Nicole Vandermade of Brantford, Ontario, and Stephanie Wagstaff of Asheville, N.C., took top honors to qualify for the weekend's event.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan Srixon Qualifier featured 80 boys and 20 girls — ages 12-18 — wishing to “play their way in” to the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. The Traditions of Braselton played host to the event, which was staged on the par-71, 6,683-yard (Girls Division played at 5,735 yards) course in Jefferson, Ga.

Although the qualifier was held at The Traditions of Braselton, neither Rives nor Wolfe are strangers to the Chateau Elan Resort — Chateau Course where the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan will take place. Rives earned medalist honors on the course in 2005 at the Srixon Qualifer for the Burgett H. Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic.

“It is one of my favorite courses,” said Rives. “My goal this weekend is to finish in the top 10 and become fully exempt.”

Seven others qualified for the weekend in the Boys Division, including David Dannelly of Easley, S.C., Drew Page of Waynesville, N.C., Billy Shida of Duluth, Ga., Brent Whitehead of Marietta, Ga., Jason Cohan of Wayne, Pa., John Gregory Joseph of Valdosta, Ga., and Timothy Kelly of Bradenton, Fla.

Those who qualified but are taking a tournament exemption instead of playing at Chateau Elan are Kevin Lee of Dacula, Ga., Dominic Bozzelli of Pittsford, N.Y., and David Boyce and Robert Burrow of Charlotte, N.C.

In the Girls Division, Ernst and Vandermade qualified for their first AJGA event and are excited about the chance to play. Wagstaff has participated in AJGA events and is hoping for a win this weekend.

“The course played difficult today,” said Vandermade. “I hope my game can compare this weekend.”
