Elsen was pleased with his steady round, which featured a 34 on the front nine and a 35 on the back side with six birdies and four bogeys.
“I think my course management was really on today,” he said. “I just did my routine, picked the right line and found the hole.”
Elsen contributed his solid play to his driver, with which he had been struggling recently, and his putter. He finished strong with birdies on Nos. 15, 16 and 17, a run that included holing out from the bunker on the par-3 16th.

Lua, 14, also felt that course management was key to her round, which consisted of a 32 on the front nine a 38 on the back side.
“I knew I had to be careful out there today,” Lua said. “I had to pay attention to the greens, because they have a lot of subtle breaks and are easy to three-putt.”
Lua’s strategy paid off as she needed only 25 putts on her round. She found her stroke early on the first hole, where she put her approach shot in the greenside bunker and made a 20-footer to save par.
