ALLENSPACH MAINTAINS THREE-STROKE LEAD HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND OF FIDELITY INVESTMENTS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Burlison fires 1-under-par at Redstone Golf Club for second consecutive day

HUMBLE, Texas — Drew Allenspach of Sugar Land, Texas, fired a 1-under-par 71 to maintain a three-stroke lead after the first two rounds of play at the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship. For the second consecutive day, Sydney Burlison of Salinas, Calif., fired the only subpar round in the Girls Division, bringing her to a tournament total of 2-under-par 144—a 71 both days.

The Fidelity Investments Junior Championship, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, features 64 boys and 20 girls — ages 12 — 18 from 11 states (66 from the state of Texas). The event is being staged on the par-72, 7,309-yard Jacobsen Hardy Course at Redstone Golf Club (Girls Division played at 6,080 yards).

Eighteen-year-old Allenspach shot a 71 Friday following a round of 68 on Thursday, leaving him three strokes ahead of second-place finisher Bryant Lach of The Woodlands, Texas. Lach fired a 2-under-par 70—tying him for low round of the day with two others—after an even par 72 Thursday.

Allenspach leads a strong Boys Division with a two day total of 139, leading Lach at 142, Cody Vincent of Sulphur, La., and Joshua Ray of New Braunfels, Texas, also at 144, and five others tied at 145.

“It feels great—this is what we play for, to play well in these AJGA events,” said Allenspach. “ I've been playing well and I look forward to tomorrow.

“The challenge is to stay in the present and just take it one shot at a time, and not think back on the round before. Hopefully I can just take this confidence into tomorrow and just play well.”

Heading into the final round, 15-year-old Burlison leads second place Taylor Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz., by four strokes. In third place, Sarah Zwartynski of Allen, Texas, sits alone with a two-day total of 147.

“I'm really excited just to do this same thing all over again tomorrow,” Burlison said, “Coming into the round I try not to think about scores. I just know my swing is strong enough that if I hit some putts and keep it in the fairway, I can win. I am just happy now that I am in position to actually do that.”
