Srixon Qualifier Series
The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center - Panther Trail Course
The Woodlands, Texas • March 24, 2005

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Matt Smith of Austin, Texas, shot a 1-under-par 71 to claim medalist honors at the Srixon Qualifier for the PING Junior at The Woodlands Qualifier. Jaclyn Sweeney of Andover, Mass., and Sara Hemingway of Kingwood, Texas, shot matching 4-over-par 76s to share medalist honors in the Girls Division.

The 18-hole event, part of the Srixon Qualifier Series, was conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center - Panther Trail Course and featured 100 players from 12 states, including 75 from the state of Texas.

“I played pretty well,” Smith said. “If I continue to play like this, I should have a good chance,” he added. “I am very happy with the overall results, especially considering this was my first qualifier.”

In the Girls Division, Sweeney and Hemingway shared the honors after both players maneuvered through the Panther Trail Course at 4-over-par. Sweeney finished with three birdies including Nos. 1, 13 and 16. Hemingway was able to earn consecutive birdies on Nos. 1 and 2, for a 37 on the front nine.

Also qualifying in the Boys Division were Kevin Hengtgen of Mount Prospect, Ill., and Matt Sandell of The Woodlands, Texas. Qualifying via a sudden-death playoff were Miles Seybert of Perryton, Texas, Will Loweth of Houston, Kenny Barousse of Kenner, La., Matthew Hungerman of Mandeville, La., and Ben Suarez of Sulphur, La. Ty Needels of San Antonio qualified, but chose to take his Tournament Exemption in lieu of playing in the PING Junior at The Woodlands.

Also qualifying in the Girls Division were Megan O'Donnell of Houston, Christine Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, and Eunice Yim of LaCanada, Calif.

The 36-hole event begins Saturday and concludes Sunday, with tee times at 7 a.m. â€” 1 p.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees.
