MCNEELY "MAKES EVERYTHING" ON HIS WAY TO 64
11 Boys Qualify for Marsico Funds Colorado Junior Roundup

WINDSOR, Colo. - Taylor McNeely of Duncanville, Texas, picked a perfect time to shoot his career-low round. McNeely's 8-under-par 64 gave him medalist honors and more importantly a spot in the tournament field of the AJGA Marsico Funds Colorado Junior Roundup. Alex Coe of Danville, Calif., came in with a 6-under-par 66, the only other under-par round in the 82-player qualifier field.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the 54-hole AJGA Marsico Funds Colorado Junior Roundup will feature 99 players, ages 13-18, representing 19 states. More than 30 players included in the tournament field hail from Colorado.

The two under-par qualifying rounds came in completely different manners. McNeely was aggressive off the tee while Coe played it safe by hitting a driving iron on the majority of his tee shots.

"I always hit my driver really straight," McNeely said. "I was just concentrating and trying to make solid contact on every single shot."

Along with hitting his driver straight all day, McNeely credited hitting 17 greens in regulation to his low round that included six birdies and an eagle on the 521-yard, par-5 fifth.

Coe was a bit more leery of the 7,092-yard, par-72 course. It wasn't the length that worried him, it was hitting greens and making putts.

"I know that I played conservatively," he said of his six-birdie, no-bogey round. "All I wanted to do was hit the big dog all day, but I knew my best bet was to stick to my gameplan."

McNeely, who had his best AJGA finish at the St. Regis Aspen Junior Classic when he tied for 14th, now has an enormous amount of confidence going into tournament play.

"I feel like I can go out and shoot the same thing in the tournament," he said. "I just want to remember this and enjoy the ride."

The other qualifiers include: Calder Hendrickson of Superior, Colo., Aaron Goldberg of Encinitas, Calif., and Patrick Baxter of Cherry Hills Village, Calif., at 72; Sean Meier of Palm Desert, Calif., Woogene Lee of Fountain Valley, Calif., Brandon Graspointer of Turlock, Calif., and Nathan Hall of Atherton, Calif., at 73; and Casey Nielsen of Las Vegas, and Brian Nelson of Placerville, Calif., at 74, placed them in a playoff they would eventually win.

First-round action will begin Wednesday with tee times running from 7:00-11:57 a.m. off of the No. 1 tee.
