MOULTON LEADS THE WAY AT AJGA FUTURELINKS JUNIOR AT DEER CREEK
Sadekar grabs lead in Girls Division

AJAX, Ontario - Brad Moulton of Orangeville, Ontario, fired a 3-under-par 68 to sit atop the leaderboard after the first round of the AJGA FutureLinks Junior at Deer Creek. Seema Sadekar of Stouffville, Ontario, carded a 3-over-par 74 to secure the lead in the Girls Division.

The 54-hole event, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association and FutureLinks, is being held at the Deer Creek Golf & Country Estates, Ruby & Diamond courses. This is the first year of partnership between the AJGA - the United States' premier junior golf organization - and FutureLinks - Canada's blossoming national junior golf program. The field features 99 players from Canada, the United States and Bermuda, including 65 players from Ontario.

Moulton set the tone early with a birdie on No.1 and a par on the difficult 209-yard, par-3 second hole.

"That's always a good start," Moulton said. "Getting the par on No.2 was good because that's a tough hole."

The 17-year-old continued to make par until he added another birdie on No. 7 to move to 2-under-par on the front side. Moulton negated a bogey on No. 12 with two birdies on the back nine including one on the 531-yard, par-5 18th hole to secure a three-shot lead heading into the second round.

"I hope to play solid tomorrow," said Moulton, who hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation. "I don't want to waste this good round with a bad round. There are lots of tough holes, so you can get in trouble easily."

Daniel Kreindler of Danville, Calif., is three shots back at 34-37--71. Justin Bratkovich of Hamilton, Ontario; Andrew Parr of London, Ontario; Andrew Gallo of Thornhill, Ontario, and Jesse Dixon of Ann Arbor, Mich., are tied in third place at 1-over-par 72.

In the Girls Division, Sadekar's strategy of smart and safe paid off as she saved par on 15 of 18 holes and rolled in a 15-foot birdie putt on the 356-yard, par-4 11th hole for a 38-36--74.

"I felt like I could do well today if I kept the driver in the bag," Sadekar said. "I need to keep making good decisions. Smart and consistent can win on this course."

Erica Deschamps of Blind River, Ontario, holed an ace on the 144-yard, par-3 fourth hole and is four strokes back at 37-41--78. Erica Dahl of Fargo, N.D., and Eunice Yum of Torrance, Calif., are in third place at 81.

Second-round action begins Thursday at 7 a.m. For more information on the AJGA FutureLinks Junior at Deer Creek, please contact AJGA headquarters at (905) 427-0387.
