WILMINGTON, Del.-Brittany Lang of McKinney,
Texas, fired a second-round score of 1-under-par 70
Wednesday to share the lead with Elizabeth Janangelo
of West Hartford, Conn., at the AJGA McDonald's Betsy
Rawls Girls National Championship at DuPont Country
Club. The duo is tied going into the final round with
a two-day total of even-par 142. Both girls look to
add a third AJGA victory for 2001 to their resume Thursday.
The AJGA McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls National Championship,
conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, features
a field of 67 girls representing 22 states and Canada.
Twenty-one Polo Golf Junior All-Americans are competing
in the 54-hole event. Past champions of the 13-year-old
tournament include Kellee Booth, Grace Park, Cristie
Kerr, Beth Bauer and Leigh Anne Hardin.
"I hope to combine yesterday's putting with today's
ball striking for my round tomorrow," Janangelo
said. "The key to playing this course well is putting.
The greens are in great shape, and you can get a lot
of putts to fall if you're on line."
Janangelo, coming off a semi-finals appearance at the
U.S. Girls Junior Championship, has carded victories
at the AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic and the AJGA Sand
Barrens Junior Championship this season. The second
team Polo Golf Junior All-American noted the McDonald's
Betsy Rawls event was her first AJGA major and remains
one of her favorite tournaments.

"A win tomorrow would be really special,"
said Janangelo, who is the tournament's top returner
after a 10th place finish in 2000. "I enjoy everything
about this event. The course is great, and the volunteers
are wonderful. It makes for a great atmosphere."
The 15-year-old Lang, who won the Lucent Technologies
Girls Junior Championship earlier this year, credited
her success Wednesday to her consistent play. She hopes
to keep hitting greens and making putts in order to
shoot the low score she feels will be necessary to win
the tournament.
"Whoever takes it low tomorrow is going to win,"
Lang said. "It's still anybody's tournament and
this is a course where you can shoot a really low score."
California natives Paula Creamer of Pleasanton and
Jane Lee of Torrance wrapped up second-round action
tied for third one stroke behind the leaders with two-day
totals of 143. Alice Kim of Los Angeles and Perry Swenson
of Charlotte, N.C., are tied for fifth at 2-over-par
144.
Final-round action begins Thursday at DuPont Country
Club with the first tee time at 7:00 a.m. For more information
