AJGA Alternate Policy

AJGA Qualifier, PBE Qualifier & IMG Academy Preseason Series

Alternate lists can be viewed on each event page at ajga.org.

Open tournaments with a corresponding AJGA Qualifier

Prior to the Qualifier, tournament alternates are determined based on the Performance Based Entry Status at the time there is a need to fill a tournament spot. See Performance Based Entry - “Breaking Ties” criteria located at ajga.org. A player's alternate position can change as PBE status is earned and used. (In order to be considered as a potential tournament alternate, an application must have been submitted to the tournament).

After the Qualifier is completed, participants who fail to qualify during the AJGAQualifier will be placed on an alternate list in order of score. In case of a tie in score, alternate status will be determined by the following formula:

  • The order of finish in a playoff.
  • Total score on Nos. 1-6 handicap holes on the course scorecard
  • Total score on Nos. 7-12 handicap holes on the course scorecard
  • Lowest individual hole score starting at No. 1 handicap hole until the tie is broken
  • Random Draw

Tournaments without a corresponding AJGA Qualifier (Open & Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series)

Tournament alternates are determined based on the Performance Based Entry Status at the time there is a need to fill a tournament spot. See Performance Based Entry - “Breaking Ties” criteria located at ajga.org. A player's alternate position can change as PBE status is earned and used. (In order to be considered as a potential tournament alternate, an application must have been submitted to the tournament).

AJGA Invitationals

Please see the Invitational Criteria located under the AJGA Invitational Schedule to view how each Invitational is filled.

Alternate spots are filled via the Polo Golf Rankings.

After the application deadline for each invitational, a Priority List will be available on the Polo Golf Rankings page to view a players' current alternate status. Please note that alternate status can fluctuate with each Polo Golf Rankings update.

Notes

An AJGA official will contact each alternate as there becomes a need to fill a spot in the field.

If the committee becomes aware of a withdrawal prior to a starting time then the committee will try to notify the first, or if the first alternate is not available, the highest available alternate of their starting time.

If the committee is not aware of a withdrawal and a player simply fails to appear for a starting time or arrives after the five minute time period, then the highest available alternate who is ready to play may take that spot.
