Winn Junior Cup Challenge returns to schedule in 2013

The Winn Junior Cup Challenge will once again kick off the American Junior Golf Association’s 2013 schedule, as the event returns to Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., Jan. 11-13. The third-annual event will feature eight of the nation’s top junior golfers competing with legendary swing coach Butch Harmon and LPGA Tour player Natalie Gulbis. The East versus West battle pairs the top two boys and girls from East of the Mississippi River against their counterparts from West of the Mississippi.

The two-day championship will be decided by number of accrued points. Last year, the West squad, featuring four Rolex Junior All-Americans in Brad Dalke, Alison Lee, AJ McInerney and Gabriella Then, pulled off a pair of late wins in the singles matches to take home the title with a final score of 16-13.
 
The competition will begin with a nine-hole, two-person scramble on Saturday, Jan. 12. Saturday will also include nine holes of four-ball match play in addition to chipping and putting challenges. Sunday, Jan. 13, will feature 18 holes of singles match play. The team that accumulates the most points over the two-day competition will be the champions and will be recognized at a 2:50 p.m. awards ceremony.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
