Each week,
the AJGA honors one boy and one girl at every AJGA tournament who shoot
the low final-round score. Below we hear from players at recent events
as they recount the defining moment of their round.
Elbit Systems of America Junior Championship
"My birdie on No. 2, one of the tougher holes on
the course, really helped my confidence,” said Myles Lewis, who fired a
4-under-par 67 to force a three-way playoff and claim the title. “After that
birdie, I knew I could go low."
"I had a hole-in-one on No. 3 from 155 yards,” said
Kaira Martin, after finishing tied for second. “I didn't see it go in and
thought it went passed the hole, but people started cheering so I knew I made
it."
AJGA Florida Junior
“I made a 35-foot eagle putt on the seventh hole that got the round
jumpstarted,” said Domenico Geminiani, who claimed victory after a final round
4-under-par 68. “The win gives me more confidence. To win on the AJGA is nice.”
“I’m just super psyched,” said Marika Liu, Girls Division champion and K12
Qualifier medalist. “I’ve been playing on the AJGA for four years. This is just
a turning point. I’m just so happy that I won.”
AJGA Palmetto Junior Classic
“On No. 3, I
hit a really great second shot,” said Bailey Patrick, Jr., who shot a
5-under-par 67. “It got plugged in
some pine needles so I just tried to get away with par but I hit it tight and
birdied it.”
“On No. 17, I made a 25-footer for birdie,” said Samantha
Swinehart, who posted a 2-under-par 70 to finish second at the event.
ClubCorp Mission Hills Desert Junior
“After struggling with my putting, I was able to birdie No. 18 in front of a
gallery,” said Jonah Texeira, who carded a 3-under-par 69. “This was one of the
best driving days for me and everything went straight down the middle today."
"On No. 18 I hit my 60 degree wedge 85 yards right at the hole and it checked
up,” said Matt Pinizzotto, who finished tied for fourth with Texeira. “I knew
that I had to break 70. I was so glad to be able to do it today.”
“I hit every fairway and only missed one green,” said Kristen Park of her
6-under-par 66. “I stuck it to
three feet from the hole on No. 18 and made a birdie putt. I love playing No.
18 because of all the history it has to it.”

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
