HP Scholastic Junior All-Americans selected

Boys Team • Girls Team

Twenty-four of the nation’s brightest minds and best junior golfers were named to the 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team, the American Junior Golf Association and HP announced Wednesday, Sept. 26. Sponsored by HP since 1988, the team consists of 12 young men and 12 young women who demonstrate the ability to excel both on the golf course and in the classroom.

To be eligible to apply for the HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team, boys must have placed in the top 10 of an AJGA Open, Regional Golf Championship or Invitational, while girls needed a top-five finish. The selections were then based on grade point average, class rank, SAT/ACT/PLAN/PSAT scores, community service and writing ability. Candidates were required to submit an essay no longer than 500 words on an original topic relating to golf.

“HP is once again proud to recognize outstanding academic, athletic, and community service achievements with the naming of the 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team,” said John Dayan, Vice President, Technology Services Group, Hewlett-Packard. “The AJGA, working closely with parents and players alike, strives to prepare these young adults for life in college and beyond, by instilling honor, integrity, persistence and sportsmanship.  HP and the AJGA are celebrating 25 years of support for this award and recognition of excellence.”

The 12 boys on the HP Scholastic Junior All-America team are Jack Adolfson, Niwot, Colo. (2013), Max Alcorn, Poway, Calif. (2013), Christopher Chu, Fullerton, Calif. (2013), Robert Deng, Irvine, Calif. (2013), Conley Hurst, Little Rock, Ark. (2013), Scott Jaster, Bryn Mawr, Pa. (2013), Matt Kern, Springboro, Ohio (2013), Jeffrey Lang, Lexington, Mass. (2013), Zachary Martin, Pinehurst, N.C. (2013), Davis Morrison, Charlotte, N.C. (2013), Josh Radcliff, Coppell, Texas (2013), and Li Wang, Sammamish, Wash. (2013)

The 12 girls on the HP Scholastic Junior All-America team are Elisabeth Bernabe, Anaheim Hills, Calif. (2013), Aliea Clark, Carlsbad, Calif. (2014), Elizabeth Doty, Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. (2013), Nina Fairbairn, Orinda, Calif. (2013), Jordan Ferreira, University Place, Wash. (2013), Sara Garmezy, Franklin, Tenn. (2013), Alexandra Harkins, Crystal Lake, Ill. (2014), Alice Jeong, Gardena, Calif. (2013), August Kim, St. Augustine, Fla. (2013), Hana Ku, Basking Ridge, N.J. (2013), Jordan Lippetz, Bradenton, Fla. (2013), and Katie Page, Louisville, Ky. (2013).

These outstanding individuals will be honored at the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet, Nov. 18, at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. By being named to this team, each player is also eligible to participate in the Polo Golf Junior Classic, one of the most prestigious events in junior golf, which will take place on PGA National Resort & Spa's Champion and Fazio Courses, Nov. 17-23.

Former HP Scholastic Junior All-Americans have gone on to successful amateur and professional golf careers, including Casey Martin (1989), Wendy Ward (1990), Kellee Booth (1992), Matt Kuchar (1994), Scott Langley (2005) and Patrick Rodgers (2009, 2010).

The HP Scholastic Honor Roll recognizes those juniors who have achieved a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher, but who were not selected as HP Scholastic All-Americans. For a complete 2012 Honor Roll list click here.

My Last AJGA Tour

Which tourneys to choose for my last summer tour?
It’s overwhelming, but exciting for sure!

Check out the schedule, some within a short drive?
Must choose wisely, can only play five!

There’s E-Z-GO, Golf Pride, NRP,
Stacy Lewis, Steelwood, Hank Haney,

Winn Grips, Aspen, Steve Marino,
Shreveport, Furman, Puerto Rico!

Stars, exemptions, apply – I’m in!
Road trip, host hotel, Hampton Inn!

FootJoy, Polo, I’m in luck!
ProVI, adidas, the TaylorMade Truck!

Practice round, Junior-Am, ready to play,
Excitement builds on tournament day,

No range at the course, find somewhere to hit,
Mark my balls, choose my outfit,

Measure my shorts, though it seems extreme,
Gotta verify the 5-inch inseam!

Sand bottle, scorecard, no range finder allowed,
I’m on the first tee in front of a crowd,

Players in the field from other countries, no doubt,
Language barrier? Act it out!

Golf is universal, wherever you are,
Everyone speaks bogey, birdie, and par,

Play the first round, post my score,
Start to head out, but wait… there’s more!

Tournament cookout, long drive contest,
Care for the Course, then a good night’s rest,

Next morning up early, round two underway,
But first, don’t forget the equipment survey!

It’s hot and humid, over 100 degrees,
But Operation Hydration puts our parents at ease,

Bad shot by my partner, shaft is snapped,
Hurled into the woods, then leg is slapped.

Official approaches, one stroke applied,
One hole later, behavior modified,

Play twelve holes, then a storm delay,
Will we finish 18 today?

Take cover in the clubhouse, socialize,
Hangout with friends, and time just flies!

Back on the course, need to hole this putt,
End of round two, made the cut!

Last round, standard bearers ready to go,
Brand new pairings and the field cut low,

Pressure’s on, coaches hover,
Low final round gets the Scotty headcover!

Red card issued, let’s get cracking,
Putt out, next tee, no time for slacking!

Double red card, now let’s all run,
Par, par, birdie, hole-in-one!

Blisters on feet, at times I limped,
Top Three Finish! Fully Exempt!

Winner gets the coveted Champion Bag,
Shows you’re legit – (hashtag) #golfswag,

Resumes, videos, watch me hit!
Unofficial visits, verbally commit!

Under Armour®, Music City, Club Corp, PING,
Randy Wise, Kansas City, East Moline,

Greenbrier, Innisbrook, Traditions, Exide,
So long, AJGA… and thanks for the ride!
