AJGA alum Bob Estes giving back

Tournament website

Bob Estes has been there from the beginning.

A native of Abilene, Estes played in the first four AJGA tournaments in his hometown, with his best finish being T10 in the inaugural event in 1981. In all, his AJGA record included 14 tournaments, with the highlight being a win at the 1984 AJGA Oklahoma Classic. He was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and was a first-team selection in 1984, along with future PGA TOUR players Bob May, Billy Mayfair, David Toms and Brian Watts.

Since his junior golf days, Estes attended the University of Texas and won the 1988 Haskins Award before beginning a PGA TOUR career that includes four victories.

Estes began giving back to his hometown event in 2006 and has been a critical element to the longevity of the Aaron’s / Bob Estes Abilene Junior. At 32 years old, the event is the third-oldest on the AJGA schedule, trailing only the Rolex Tournament of Champions and Polo Golf Junior Classic.

“It’s (the AJGA) always been a big part of my development and I’ve always tried to give back,” Estes said. “I’m just happy that I can still be involved and help out.”
