10 players named to PING Junior Solheim Cup

Nancy Lopez and the American team won the 2009 PING Junior Solheim Cup at Aurora Country Club.

Ten girls have qualified for the 2011 PING Junior Solheim Cup U.S. Team.

Karen Chung, Jaye Marie Green, Alison Lee, Kyung Kim and Gabriella Then are the first five American girls to qualify, based on the AJGA's Polo Golf Rankings.

Ashlan Ramsey, Mariah Stackhouse, Esther Lee, Lindsey Weaver and Emma Talley are the next five in, based on their positions in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.

The final two spots on the team are reserved for captain's picks. This year’s U.S. captain is Meg Mallon, who served as Assistant Captain at the 2009 Solheim Cup. As a player, she has amassed a total of 19 Tour titles and has played in eight Solheim Cups. A two-time U.S. Women’s Open Champion, Mallon brings a wealth of experience and has already begun forming a bond with her team. At the Rolex Girls Junior Championship in June, Mallon watched the players on the course and engaged them at a players' dinner, fielding questions and winning everyone over with her wit and knowledge.

Among the 10 current members of the 2011 U.S. Team, Alison Lee of Valencia, Calif., is the sole returnee from the winning team at the 2009 event staged at Aurora Country Club in Aurora, Ill.

Also highlighting the team is Karen Chung of Livingston, N.J., who was the victor at the 2011 Thunderbird International Junior and a three-time Wyndham Cup participant. Jaye Marie Green of Boca Raton, Fla., is the reigning Polo Golf Junior Classic champion, the AJGA's sole individual match play tournament. Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is the latest victor at the Rolex Tournament of Champions, the AJGA's flagship event that began in 1978.

The sixth edition of the biennial PING Junior Solheim Cup is slated for Sept. 20-21 at the Knightsbrook Hotel & Spa Golf Resort in Trim, Ireland. Modeled after the LPGA’s Solheim Cup, this two-day match play event pits the top 12 female juniors from the U.S. against their 12 European counterparts in a battle for bragging rights and team pride. After the event, players will be guests of honor at the Solheim Cup, where many former members of the PING Junior Solheim Cup teams, such as Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Melissa Reid and Anna Nordqvist will be competing.
