My Scotty Cameron Moment

Each week, the AJGA honors the boy and girl junior golfers who shoot the lowest round during the final tournament round. Each of these players will be presented with one of this year's new Scotty Cameron putter covers in silver or gold. In this feature, we will hear from the players each week who take home this honor and what helped them get there.

Stanford Financial Junior Championship hosted by David Gossett

“On the par-3 No. 14, the pin was in the back right, near the water,” said Brandon Rodgers of Knoxville, Tenn., who fired a 3-under-par 68 during the final round to take home top honors. “It was playing about 210 and I hit a 7-iron to about 10 feet and made the putt for birdie.

“On No. 18, I had 150 yards in and I hit a 6-iron to about 10 feet right of the hole,” said Girls Division champion Kendall Martindale of Jefferson City, Tenn., who carded a 1-over-par 72 during the final round. “I made the putt to close with a birdie.”

TEE UP Junior Challenge

“I birdied seven holes today so I was happy with that,” said Boys Division champion Tao Huang of Beaumont, Calif., who carded a 5-under-par 67 during the final round. “I think the coolest shot was on No. 18 where I hit my iron in the fairway and the ball took a great bounce off the hill of the bunker and onto the green for a decent putt.”

“I birdied the par-3 No. 14 which is a hard hole to birdie, which made me very happy,” said Yu-Ling Hsieh of Beaumont, Calif., who fired a final-round 4-under-par 68. “I hit my 6-iron to 15 feet and made the putt from there.”

AJGA Arkansas Junior at Blessings

"I hit my second shot into the par-5 No. 16 to four feet,” said C.J. Kim of Chandler, Ariz., whose final-round 1-under-par 71 put him in second. “I missed the eagle putt, but it was still a great shot, and I made birdie anyway."

"On No. 3 I had a bogey, and I know bogey is not good, but I think that bogey actually helped me because it got me back on track mentally and that helped me,” said Julie Yang of Phoenix, who finished the tournament with a 2-under-par 70 to win. “From that point on, I was able to move on from there and make birdies later on."

Lockton/Capitol Federal Kansas City Junior

“On No. 15, I hit an 8-iron from 183 to six feet and made the putt for eagle,” said Kevin Gillick of Scottsdale, Ariz., who carded a 2-under-par 70 during the final round. “I was 1-under-par and knew the guys behind me were playing pretty well and I needed a couple birdies to have a chance.

“My defining moment was my birdie on No. 2, right after one on No. 1,” said Curtis Yonke of Overland Park, Kan., who also shot a 2-under-par 70. “I almost made eagle and it just kicked me off for the start of the round.”

“I chipped in on No. 11 for birdie. I missed it on the same spot both previous days,” said Brandon Wilhide of Richmond, Texas, who finished the final round with a 2-under-par 70. “Yesterday I chipped up and three-putted and today I chipped up and made it. It kept me going and I was making birdies throughout the day.”

“On No. 16 I hit a strength 4 iron to 15 feet,” said tournament champion Ryan Zech of Kearney, Mo., who carded a final-round 2-under-par 70. “I two putted for par but it was the little cushion I needed going into the final two holes.”

“I made a 70-foot putt for par on the par-3 No. 13,” said Kelsey Kipp of Tyler, Texas, who finished tied for second after carding an even-par 72 during the final round. “It was an awesome putt that caught the left lip of the cup. It was for par though because I hit my drive in the sand and hit a fat shot out.

Lessing’s AJGA Classic

“I played a solid round the entire day,” said David Pastore of Greenwich, Conn, who finished the tournament with a 6-under-par 65. “I had six birdies and no bogeys all day, so the entire round was pretty much a highlight.”

“The whole day, I just played with a lot of consistency,” said Brittany Altomare of Shrewsbury, Mass., who earned the Girls Division championship after carding a 1-under-par 70 during the final round. “There wasn’t one specific moment. I just played shot-to-shot and tried to stick around par.”
