My Scotty Cameron Moment

Each week, the AJGA honors the boy and girl junior golfers who shoot the lowest round during the final tournament round. Each of these players will be presented with one of this year's new Scotty Cameron putter covers in silver or gold. In this feature, we will hear from the players each week who take home this honor and what helped them get there.

PING Phoenix Junior

“No. 8 was my special hole this week,” said James Back of Cerritos, Calif., who carded a 5-under-par 67 to win the event. “I had an eagle on it during both the second and final rounds. Overall, my putting was really good, I only had 29 during the final round.”

“Today was a great ball-striking day,” said Kevin Gillick of Scottsdale, Ariz., who carded a 5-under-par 67. “I kept it in play and made putts, but I think my highlight was a 30-foot putt on No. 10.”

“My day started out really good,” said Sejun Yoon of Oceanside, Calif., who was the co-medalist during the qualifier and then fired a final-round 67. “I made three birdies, but my favorite hole was No. 8 where I put it to about 15 feet on my second shot.”

“I was in control of my game today,” said Nicholas Losole III of Scottsdale, Ariz., who carded a final-round 67. “I birdied No. 18, and with the flagstick where it was, that was a big deal for me. I also made a 25-foot putt on No. 12 that really got me going.”

“There were some really tricky hole locations, but it was easy to make birdie if you were hitting the ball straight,” said Victoria Sungmin Park of Irvine, Calif., who fired a 4-under-par 68 to earn her first AJGA victory. “I struggled with that at first, but really worked on it over the two days and pulled it together during the final round.”

Golf Pride Junior Classic

“I made everything inside of 10 feet,” said Michael Cromie of Cary, N.C., who carded a final-round 68. “That really helped me shoot low.”

“On No. 5 I hit a 4-iron to about two feet at that right pin and made birdie,” said tournament champion Evan Beck of Virginia Beach, Va., who also fired a final-round 68.

Dalhousie Junior Championship

"I had an eagle on No. 18,” said Josh Alford of Marion, Ark., who carded a 4-under-par 68. “I hit a 5-wood from 230 yards to about 12 feet."

"On my No. 18 tee shot I hit it in the fairway, that made me happy,” said tournament champion Ani Gulugian of Irvine, Calif., who fired a 4-under-par 68 during the final round to take home her second victory in as many weeks. “I hit it in the bunker the other two days."

Scissortail Junior Championship

"I hit 17 fairways today and the one I missed I still made par,” said Jade Scott of Daingerfield, Texas, who fired a final-round 4-under-par 68. “It was a great day."

"I chipped in for birdie on No. 16, so that was a highlight toward the end," said Kayli Quinton of Cypress, Texas, who carded a 2-under-par 70 to finish out the tournament.

CorseMax/Philadelphia Runner Junior

“I bogeyed the thirteenth hole which I wasn’t too happy about,” said Grant Martens of Pittsburgh, Pa., who finished the tournament with a 2-under-par 68. “But then I lipped my approach shot out from the fairway on No. 14 for eagle, so I had a tap-in birdie.”

“I played eight really bad holes, but then I stuck it to four feet on No. 18,” said Marisa Kamelgarn of Mahopac, N.Y., of who carded a final-round 75. “I made birdie so that was a good way to end my round."

Leadership Links

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age.
