Sta-Green® Care for the Course Campaign Springs into Action

Dust off those golf clubs and apply some sunscreen because the American Junior Golf Association’s spring season is off and running after last weekend’s trio of Easter weekend golf tournaments in Florida, Texas and Arizona.

Players at the Houston Boys Invitational at Redstone presented by HP and Administaff take time to participate in the Sta-Green Care for the Course Party.

The AJGA staff was armed and ready to recruit you to help officially launch the Sta-Green® Care for the Course 2008 campaign.

Aimed at educating AJGA junior golfers on proper golf course care and etiquette, the campaign is backed by the maker of Sta-Green® products, a leading lawn care brand available at Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse. Sta-Green® is dedicated to helping the AJGA have a green year at each of its 81 golf courses in 2008.

"Golf is a game you play for life, and we're thrilled to be part of a program that helps guide young golfers today in how to be responsible on the course and to the environment for years to come," said Jennifer Clark, marketing manager for Sta-Green® products.

The Sta-Green® Care for the Course initiative teed off in Texas in February at the Houston Boys Invitational at Redstone presented by HP and Administaff. After the second round, more than 30 juniors filled divots and repaired ball marks on the back nine of Redstone Golf Club’s Tournament Course.

In addition to giving back to members of host golf course facilities and educating juniors on proper maintenance, the Sta-Green® Care for the Course program is attracting many fans like Redstone Golf Club’s head professional Bret Nutt.

“It is an amazing thing that you all are trying to leave the course in a better state than you found it,” said Nutt.

This is important especially because in just three weeks, PGA Tour professionals will tee it up on the very grass repaired by AJGA juniors during the Shell Houston Open (April 3-6).

Sta-Green® Care for the Course parties will be featured after the second round of play at each event. Each party will incorporate different needs of the host golf courses and will kick off with the new educational video produced by the AJGA and USGA partnership.

At the Mizuno Junior at Innisbrook, site of the PGA TOUR’s PODS Championship just two weeks ago, AJGA juniors were able to repair the Copperhead and Highlands North Courses in record speed.

The desert will provide a different perspective for juniors traveling to the ReBath Heather Farr Classic – where in 2007, more than 40 juniors helped to care for the course.

The AJGA Championship at Traditions event, new to the AJGA schedule in 2008, will have the opportunity to set a new attendance record.

Remember your divot repair tool this season – the AJGA is out to stay green this spring!
