College Round-up

Zahkai Brown won the individual title at the Del Walker Intercollegiate presented by Back 9 USA in Long Beach, Calif., Friday, helping Colorado State University win the team title over UC-Irvine by 23 shots. Dustin Morris and Bryce Hanstad, also of Colorado State, John Chin of UC-Irvine and Mark Hubbard of San Jose State all finished in the top five.

UCLA won the team title at The Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif., Sunday. Lizette Salas, of the University of Southern California, was the individual medalist at 7-under-par 206. Caroline Masson of Oklahoma State, Belen Mozo of USC, Sydnee Michaels and Ryann O’Toole of UCLA, Jennie Lee and Mina Harigae of Duke, and Kristin Ingram of Arkansas rounded out the top five.

Amateur Round-up

Scotland won the World Amateur Team Championship by nine strokes Sunday in Adelaide, Australia, claiming the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time. The U.S. team took second with Rickie Fowler being the low scorer at 10-under-par 280.

Vicky Hurst

Vicky Hurst won the Duramed Invitational held at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga., home of the AJGA’s National Headquarters, Sunday with a tournament total 2-under-par 211. Hurst was also presented the FUTURES Tour’s rookie of the year award and the player of the year award. She won five events this season on the FUTURES Tour and topped the money list, setting the tour’s career earnings record and acquiring her LPGA tour card. Vikki Laing, Taya Battistella, Mindy Kim and Sarah Lynn Sargent all finished in the top five.

On the LPGA Tour, Morgan Pressel won the inaugural Kapalua LPGA Classic in Hawaii Sunday. She sank an 18-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to finish with a four-day total of 8-under-par 280 and win by one stroke.  The victory is Pressel’s second in her LPGA career.

Arjun Atwal won the Nationwide Tour’s Chattanooga Classic presented by Black Creek Sunday, beating Webb Simpson with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Kris Blanks, Hunter Haas and Brendon de Jonge rounded out the top five.

On the PGA Tour, Marc Turnesa won the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Sunday. He finished with a total of 25-under-par 263 to win by one stroke over Matt Kuchar. Michael Allen, Chad Campbell and John Mallinger all finished in the top five.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
