U.S. Curtis Cup Team Announced

The U.S. Curtis Cup Team has been announced and it is brimming with AJGA juniors and alumnae. The event, which is set to take place May 30-June 1 on the Old Course at St. Andrews, will pit players from the United States against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland.

Amanda Blumenherst, a four-time Rolex Junior All-American, is currently a junior at Duke University. She had 10 junior victories and continues the winning tradition while in college. Blumenherst is a two-time National Player of the Year and earned Freshmen of the Year honors as well.

Mina Harigae

Mina Harigae of Monterey, Calif., is a five-time Rolex Junior All-American, including first-team honors in 2007. Currently ranked No. 6 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Harigae earned top honors at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. She will join fellow Curtis Cuppers Blumenherst and Jennie Lee at Duke next fall.

Tiffany Joh, a UCLA junior, was a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and an HP Scholastic Junior All-American. She earned three AJGA victories while playing junior golf. She was victorious at the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. She also finished tied for 22nd at the LPGA’s Safeway Classic last August playing as an amateur.

Kimberly Kim of Pahoa, Hawaii, was named to the Curtis Cup on the strength of her junior and amateur golf record. Kim won the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship and has been a Rolex Junior All-American four times, including first-team honors in 2007.

Jennie Lee, also a junior at Duke, recently tied for low amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open. As a four time Rolex Junior All-American, Lee won seven national junior golf competitions. In two years at Duke, Lee helped lead her team to two NCAA and ACC titles.

Stacy Lewis, a senior at the University of Arkansas, was victorious at the 2007 NCAA championship. Lewis has competed in numerous LPGA events and was the Dinah Shore Trophy winner during 2007.

Alison Walshe, a senior at the University of Arizona, was victorious at the 2007 North and South Amateur, as well as the 2008 Harder Hall Invitational. During her junior year, Walshe was also named a first-team All-American.

Rounding out the eight-player team is Meghan Bolger, a two-time U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion. Former AJGA member and Pepperdine University freshmen Taylore Karle earned first alternate status after her strong play on the women’s amateur circuit, finishing as co-champion at the Silver Belle and runner-up at the Harder Hill Invitational.
