Junior Round-up

Ashleigh Simon

Devin Miertschin of El Paso, Texas, won the Texas Cup Invitational with a 1-over-par 143. Cory Whitsett of Houston and Sumin Yu of Plano tied for second place after each firing a 2-over-par 144.

College Round-up

Charlotte captured the PING/Golfweek Preview with a 3-over-par 867. Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler finished in fourth place in the individual portion with a 1-under-par 215.

Notre Dame posted a three-stroke victory at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup for its second consecutive victory to start the season. The Irish were led by freshman So-Hyun Park, who fired a 3-under-par 213. Teammate Lisa Maunu shot a 5-over-par 221.

South Alabama's Daniel Burns claimed the individual title at the South Alabama Jaguar Intercollegiate with a 13-under-par 203. Burns defeated Kent Bulle of Middle Tennessee State in a sudden-death playoff...Sophia Choi led Northern Arizona to the team title at the La Quinta Mountain Shootout. Choi also captured the individual title with a 7-over-par 151...Denver placed first at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, led by Stephanie Sherlock, who captured the individual title with a 3-under-par 213.

Professional Round-up

Ashleigh Simon, who won the 2006 Rolex Tournament of Champions, finished in a tie for second at the first stage of LPGA Sectional Qualifying. Simon shot a 1-under-par 287, as did Amie Cochran. Jennifer Ackerson, Emma Cabrera-Bello, Nicole Hage, Dana Je, Hannah Jun, Whitney Wade, May Wood all also advanced.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
