Junior Round-up

Cory Whitsett

Cory Whitsett of Houston, won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, defeating fellow Texan Anthony Paolucci 8 and 7. Whitsett had birdies on Nos. 7 and 9 and parred Nos. 8, 10 and 11 in the morning portion of the 36-hole match play final to turn a 2-up deficit to a 3-up advantage. He finished with five birdies and just two bogeys in becoming only the second lefty to ever win the championship.

Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., captured the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, defeating Ayaka Kaneko of Honolulu, 4 and 3. The match was tied after the first 18 holes, but Park went 1-up on the 19th hole and never let the lead slip. The 14-year-old is the fourth-youngest winner in the championship's history.
