College Round-up

Last week, Jon McLean of Texas Christian University earned his first win of the season at the Inverness Intercollegiate. He shot a 1-over-par 214 tournament total to take a four stroke victory. TCU finished second in the team division to the University of Southern California. USC was led by freshman Jamie Lovemark who finished third with a 6-over-par tournament total.


AJGA alum Jennie Lee

The University of Georgia’s Chris Kirk took home individual honors at the Carpet Capital Collegiate last weekend after shooting an 11-under-par 205 tournament total. He finished one stroke ahead of Darren Blair of North Carolina State. Alabama took home the top team honors at the event.

Alison Walshe of the University of Arizona finished the Macon Rudolph Championship last weekend with a 6-under-par 210 trumping the competition by two shots. Duke started the year the same way they ended the last, with a first-place showing in the team division. Jennie Lee, who finished tied for fourth, was the top finisher for the Blue Devils.

Texas Christian’s Catherine Matranga finished first at the Branch Law Firm/ Dick McGuire last week. She finished one stroke ahead of Arizona State’s Anna Nordqvist and South Carolina’s Benedicte Toumpsin. Arizona State earned the top team honors.

Other Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Brandon Ray of Central Connecticut State University earned top honors at the CCSU Invitational last weekend. He finished seven shots ahead of second place finisher Joe Hajjar of Holy Cross. CCSU took home the top team honors…Ryan Spears of Wichita State took home individual honors at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate. Jeff Kaiser of Wisconsin helped the Badgers take home the team title…Jordan Irwin of the University of Houston earned individual honors at the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic last week…Tyler Brewington of Rider University finished first at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend…Mitch Gillis of Oregon State University shot 6-under-par at The Wolverine Intercollegiate last week to take home individual honors. Garrett Jones of Wisconsin helped them along to the head of the team division.

Other Alumni in Women's College Golf...

Lauren Cheves of North Texas finished at 3-over-par to earned individual honors at the North Texas Women’s Classic. Julia Heath of Cal Poly finished three shots behind in second and Texas State’s Amy Glazier finished third at 8-over-par. North Texas took home team honors…University of North Carolina’s Lauren Hunt finished 6-under-par and earned her first victory of the season at the Cougar Classic last week. She finished two shots ahead of Florida State’s Caroline Westrup who helped FSU to earn the top team honors.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
